In the process of reform and opening up and development of the socialist market economy, because the double impact of transition and uncertainty of the era transformation, social transformation, system transformation and the market economy, western social thoughts are emerging and are active, and it has a profound impact on people’s thinking and behavior. The communication process of western social thoughts is generally from senior intellectuals to the young students and the public, so the communication characteristics decide that college ideological and cultural fields is collecting and distributing center of various social thoughts. Because college students’ characteristics of loving new ideas and sensitive, they always become active participants, follower, communicators and even practitioners of Western Social Thoughts. What is the level of spreading Contemporary Western Social Thoughts in college students? What is the mechanism of the effects? How to guide college students to correctly understand these thoughts? These are exactly what this article attempts to illustrate. This paper takes Marx’s guidance, and comprehensively uses the historical method, literature research method, the empirical research method, class analysis and the method of combining theory and Practice. This paper analyzes the essence and characteristics of western social thoughts from the concept of social thoughts. And it researches the history and current situation of western social thoughts’influence on college students. This paper also analyzes the reasons of contemporary western social thoughts’influence on college students. And it makes an in-depth study on the influence mechanisms. This paper also proposes some pointed countermeasures to guide the college students to understand Western Social Thoughts.I. The essence and characteristics of Western Social Thoughts.In this section, this paper mainly discusses the study significance of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students, the basic concept of social thoughts, formation conditions of Western Social Thoughts, common essence and characteristics. II. The history of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students.The history of the Western Social Thoughts have influenced college student since the reform and opening up, it can be divided into four stages:inrush period, flood period, complex period and diffusion period. The history and current situation of western social thoughts’ influence on college students was discussed, and I summed up the characteristics of influence. On this basis, this paper analyzes the basic trend of the Western Social Thoughts’influence on college student. There are some trends, such as: from the vertical deconstruction to personalized construction, from variegated transmission to stereoscopic transmission, from attaching importance of dominant to attaching both dominant and recessively, from popularization to minority, from rational internalization to emotional internalization.III. The current situation and characteristic of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students.Based on empirical research, the paper analyzes the present situation of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students and draws the following conclusions:Most of college students understand the Western Social Thoughts without thorough understanding. The overall influence of the Western Social Thoughts on college students is not big, but potential impact cannot be ignored. College students do not have high degree of recognition to the specific point of various Western Social Thoughts, while they have the high degree of recognition of an individual point of view. College students contact Western Social Thoughts with curiosity; however, they still have part recognition of the thoughts. They have very high recognition to the social core theoretical perspectives, but the core indicators’recognition is low. By the further analysis, different impacts on students of the contemporary western society were found and it has obvious demographic characteristics. The students who join the party have higher degrees of awareness of the Western Social Thoughts and lower degrees of influence and recognition than league members and ordinary student. The awareness and influence of Western Social Thoughts of liberal arts students are significantly higher than that of science and engineering students. Comparing with the influence of1980s and1990s, the influence of contemporary western social thoughts shows some new features:It uses the novelty of theories and views to attract contemporary college students, while college students contact it with more feelings and life experiences. That it penetrates into the technology influences college students. It confuses college students with western mainstream values’universality and strongly influences on students’mutual permeability. Contemporary college students’ attitude to Western Social Thoughts tends to be objective and rational, but they are lack of cognitive competence.IV. The reasons and mechanism of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students.Based on the history analysis and the results of empirical investigation, this paper analyzes the reasons of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students from four aspects, they are students themselves, Western Social Thoughts, society and education guidance. Then it further explores the influence mechanism of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students from the process and element analysis of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students. The course of contemporary Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students is a course that they apply education influences on college students and enables them to form values that they expected. The course is moved by transmitters using the education medium and environment of education. This process has two steps which are external process and internal process. The external process is the communication process of Western Social Thoughts; the internal process is college students’ acceptance process of Western Social Thoughts. The communication process is the prerequisite and foundation of Western Social Thoughts’ influence, the acceptance process is the core and fundamental. The two processes are not independent process to each other, but interconnected process, and they become a whole process. The influence mechanism of Western Social Thoughts’influence on college students is such:Disseminators turn systematic theory of Western social thoughts into some emotional, popular, lifestyle and fashion perspective under certain conditions, then they send messages to college students through the media, last college students choose information according to their own needs. This information is formatted into new knowledge through information processing and meaning construction.V. The way to guide college students to correctly understand and evaluate Western Social Thoughts.According to the characteristics, causes and mechanisms of western social thoughts’ influence on college students, this paper puts forward such ways to guide college students to correctly understand and evaluate Western Social Thoughts. These ways are strengthening the political and Ideological education, improving college students’ political theory quality, control of Western Social Thoughts’communication channels, breeding the environment of helping students to correctly understand Western Social Thoughts, innovating ideological education forms and methods to upgrade guidance.
