The employment of college graduates is related to social stability. The central government always regards college graduates as a priority among all, job-seekers. It clearly demands that "we need to help the young people, especially college graduates, to find jobs", "encourage them to start their own business", "achieve a higher rate of employment", and "improve the quality of employment". Therefore, the employment of college graduates has become an important issue, affecting people’s livelihood, social stability, and economic upgrade. The course of College Student’s Careers Development and Guidance plays an indispensable role in promoting the employment of college graduates. It not only helps college students to comprehensively improve their qualities and skills, but also guides them to combine the needs of society and their personal development. As a result, College Student’s Careers Development and Guidance is not simply a single course, but also a complex project, which encompasses student expectations, talent development objectives of universities, social needs and state development vision.In nature, College Student’s Careers Development and Guidance is a required general course designed to help students with their employment and career development. It places at its core the idea of meeting needs of society, and stresses the importance of career in one’s life. It helps students to take a reasonable view on career, obtain work-related knowledge, improve work skills and prepare themselves as career men/women. At the same time, the course helps students work out their future development plan, promote transaction of their attitudes, ideas and values, so that the students will be ready for a lifelong development.Despite its development for over a decade, in Chinese universities the course of College Student’s Careers Development and Guidance still has a long way to go. The study on this course in several universities in Chongqing reveal a couple of problems: unbalanced teaching efficiency, teachers with uneven qualities, dull teaching methods, and lack of employment and entrepreneurship information for students. In a word, the existing teaching system of this course does not respond to the needs of development of society and students any more. There has to be a change as soon as possible.It is a viable approach to carry out modular teaching design for the course of College Student’s Careers Development and Guidance. "Modular Teaching" is a teaching model that consits of a number of self-contained teaching modules. Each module is an independent learning "unit" that has its own logic structure. Modules make a "course" when they are selected and arranged according to certain logic. As a student-centered model, modular teaching is characterised by self-consistency, independence, hierarchy and openness.The idea of modularization is applied into teaching design of College Sudents’ Careers Development and Guidance and the previous "discipline-based" teaching system is broken down. According to college students’ psychological development rules and the needs of employment practice, modular teaching reintegrates teaching resource into modules with cumulative progression which feature employment preparations and career development. Through learning in each module, students are able to acquire employment knowledge and skills and form the idea of lifelong career development. In terms of process, the modular teaching design runs throughout the whole university life from start to graduation. Based on learning, life, psychological characteristics and needs of students in different stages, the design is aimd to provide teaching and guidance accordingly. In temrs of the educaitonal body, course convenors, specialized teachers, instructors, student groups and social forces are all that can be relied upon. In terms of the teaching content, a cluster of modules are to be set up on the basis of the four topics. As for teaching resourses, various teaching resources are integrated by information resources (especially information network). The modular teaching design for the course of College Students’ Careers Development and Guidance is based on the career planning theory, tsystematic teaching design theory and the main body interrelationship theory. It is a combination of systematicness and dialectics, development and balance, presupposition and generation, and modularization and optimization.The modular teaching design for the course of College Students’ Careers Development and Guidance is composed of teaching idea design, teaching objective design, modular teaching content design, modular teaching methods design and teaching evaluation design. Teaching idea design is about ideas like "skillful and knowledgeable "professionals and "all-round"happy people. Teaching objective design clarifies teaching objective, analyzes teaching objective and students characteristics. Modular teaching content design ncludes career development, employability improvement and job hunting skills. Modular teaching methods design can be realized by lecturing, simulation and grouping methods.teaching evaluation design includes the contents and methods for evaluation.To deliver the modular teaching of College Students’ Careers Development and Guidance, the main strategies that can be applied include theme unit strategy, classfication-integration strategy, case study strategy, report strategy and full feedback strategy.
