It’s well known that frequent and close exchanges in sports between countries in the world stimulated by the Industrial Revolution have given birth to“CPES (Comparative Physical Education and Sport)”,which has already obtained an independent discipline status by way of founding“ISCPES(International Society on Comparative Physical Education and Sport)”as well as by holding the“International Comparative Physical Education and Sport Academic Seminars”.CPES was approximately brought into China in the early 1980s,and before long“CSCPES (China’s Society on Comparative Physical Education and Sport)”was founded,and then it was officially recognized and accepted by ISCPES because of its excellent performances and abundant research achievements in the very research field,and at the same time CPES has also made great progress with rapid and all-round rising of China’s status in the world.However,during the course of its development,the discipline of CPES has not only meeted with a number of basic problems,which remain to be clarified and settled,but also has frequently been questioned by the experts and the scholars at home and abroad,for example,what is CPES? Who can on earth the discipline of CPES belong to? By the way,the above questions referred to are just only two cases of the similar questions.In the perspective of philosophy,sociology,culturology,and development theory, etc,this paper aims to comb the occurrence and development of CPES and to broaden our theory horizon in studying CPES on the basis of interpreting,analyzing and explaining the related issues having been existed in its disciplinary development.In order to achieve the research purposes better,this paper is supposed to be divided into the following six parts to describe and analyze the development of CPES.PartⅠ.Research on the occurrence and the development of CPES.In the opinion of the author,the development history of CPES is consist of three stages,that is to say, the initiative and emerging period of CPES(from the mid-17th century to the mid-19th century),the growing and developing period of CPES(from the late 19th century to the early 20th century),and the establishing and expanding period of CPES (from the mid-20th century to the early 21st century).Targeted at the PE.and Sport between the different countries and the different regions,CPES has always been comparizing their similarities and differences in the cross-cultural way. PartⅡ.Research on related and basic definitions of CPES.CPES is not only an independent particular academic discipline connecting applied science with theoretical science,but also a branch discipline of Sport Science studying PE.and Sport as well as Sport Science of all the countries all over the world in the cross-country,cross-cultural perspective.And at the same time,CPES can also make a survey of all the phenomena and the issues of PE.and Sport having entered human’s horizons in cross-cultural comparative perspective.PartⅢ.Research on the basic purpose and the fundamental value of CPES.The basic purpose of CPES is to study the successful experiences of PE.and Sport between foreign countries to improve and promote their own PE.and Sport.The fundamental value of CPES is to convey non-stop foreign sports information to their own countries,to constantly analyze the issues of foreign sports,and to provide in time decision-making basis and policy basis for PE.and Sport of their own countries as well as their cause of PE.and Sport.PartⅣ.Research on disciplinary nature and study objects of CPES.The cross-disciplinary nature of CPES having affected both its theoretical basis and its research direction determines the deconstruction and reconstruction of the discipline of CPES.CPES has been exploring the general laws dominating the relationships between the schools and society through analysing similarities and differences of the sports-related phenomenia.PartⅤ.Research on basic theories and study methods of CPES.Generally speaking,the development and the maturity of CPES depend mainly on the development and maturity of its methodology all the time.The experts and the scholars in CPES,who in general regard its“study methods”as itself of CPES,have been devoting themselves to separately or together establishing some scientific methodology system so as to interpretate every aspect of the descipline in history.PartⅥ.Research on CPES’s disciplinary theoretical system.This part,including the basic requirements,the research trends,the research models,the present situations, and practical issues of CPES at the age of globalization,theoretically reflects and explores all the clues which can perfect all the theoretical systems,and shows its intrinsic significance and disciplinary value from its own history evolution.
