Discipline construction is the central task for the development of higher education.It is a complicated and systematic project and connected with almost of all other worksin the university, such as national politics, economy, culture, science and technology bymacro view; construction and development of the university, building and fostering ofteacher’s academic ability, adjustment of discipline structure by micro view and so on.The sustainable development of higher education can only be obtained through buildingthe right relationship among all of those elements.Methodology adopted in this paper is a combination of documents retrieval andcomparative analysis. On the basis of definition and classification on those theories andideas of discipline construction, the trends and the fundamental rules about thediscipline construction and development in higher education as well as its contents,principles, requirements and functions have been exposed. Later, comparative analysishas been used to excavate those relationships among discipline construction. Finally, therelevant ideas and solutions for the discipline development in higher education havebeen made under the direction of optimal development.Disciplines are the basic units which are faced directly for the development of thehigher education. Nowadays, there exist many problems in discipline construction.What should be done for each university in today’s higher education would be, basedon the objective relationships among higher education, to make a right school positionand a reasonable overall discipline arrangement with the final purpose on thesustainable development of its academic ability.
