As a new social science born in the context of China’s unique discipline institution,higher education has developed tortuously in the conflict between classical discipline paradigm and research field paradigm since its foundation.In recent years,with the adjustment of discipline policy and the comprehensive promotion of "double first-class" construction in China,the development environment of higher education has undergone great changes and encountered unprecedented crisis.This kind of crisis is manifested not only as the crisis of discipline structure,but also as the crisis of discipline knowledge.It is of great theoretical and practical significance to study the issue of rediscipline-oriented higher education for resolving the crisis of higher education,breaking through the dilemma of discipline development and improving the quality of discipline.The research focuses on the issue of "re-disciplinary Issue of higher education in China",taking China’s national discipline institution as the background,based on the concept categories of "discipline institution " "discipline paradigm" and "modern discipline",and comprehensively uses literature analysis,policy analysis,historical research and comparative research.According to the necessity,the realistic possibility and the promotion strategy of the re-disciplinary of higher education,the two core issues of "what kind of discipline is higher education" and "how to promote the re-disciplinary of higher education" are studied as a whole.Based on the evolution of disciplinary classification and the transformation of disciplinary standards,the study further clarifies the disciplinary nature of higher education by investigating the environment of survival and development,discipline mission,knowledge system and research paradigm.The evolution of discipline classification shows that the standard of discipline classification has experienced the evolution from the classical discipline dominated by the logic of knowledge evolution to the modern discipline dominated by the logic of social demand,which corresponds to the two discipline forms of classical discipline and modern discipline.China’s higher education originates from the needs of China’s economic construction and social development at the beginning of reform and opening up.The discipline boundary and construction strategy are dominated by major social needs and complex higher education issues and show an open character.It is a typical modern discipline integrating multi-disciplinary resources and distinct practical characteristics.Therefore,the re-discipline issue of higher education education needs to get rid of the bondage of classical discipline paradigm,abandon the evaluation and planning the development of higher education with classical discipline standard,and reconstruct higher education with the modern discipline paradigm to realize the re-discipline issue of higher education.Based on the field of discipline construction institution in China,the study systematically analyzes the discipline institution and discipline management mode in China,and reveals the core mechanism of discipline construction and development in higher education.China’s discipline institution is a national discipline institution dominated by administrative power.The discipline management department manages the discipline affairs by issuing directive discipline catalogue.At the same time,the combination of the national discipline institution and the unit institution tradition has formed a discipline management institution mechanism that embeds the discipline construction into the unit institution.Only when higher education is included in the discipline catalogue and independent higher education institutions are established in universities,can the space and conditions for sustainable development be obtained.Therefore,the redisciplinary issue of higher education must first abandon the orientation of "research field theory" and adhere to the orientation of "discipline theory".Secondly,on the basis of the fact that higher education is a modern discipline,we should seek for the first-level discipline instruction in the field of interdisciplinarity,and build higher education into a first-level discipline with the characteristics of interdisciplinarity and application.Based on the modern discipline nature of higher education,the study puts forward the strategy of rediscipline of higher education from two aspects of discipline construction and discipline knowledge.At the level of discipline construction,for one thing,based on the advantages of Chinese national discipline institution,discipline practitioners strive for the first-class discipline instruction of higher education,so as to create an institutional environment suitable for the survival and development of higher education;For another,reconstruct higher education academic organizations,promote the differentiated development of various higher education academic organizations,and enhance their organizational performance,and form a common vision to jointly promote the development of disciplines.At the level of subject knowledge,strengthen the basic theoretical research of higher education,construct an open subject theoretical system,and promote the redisciplinaryization of higher education in knowledge form.
