The9th war zone was established in Jnue,1938, it included the Hunan province, the west of Jiangxi and the south of Hubei. At first, the commander of the war zone was ChenCheng, and in the end of1938XueYue succeed him in a post. The headquarter of the war zone was in Changsha.During the period of war, the9th war zone had undergone nine campaigns. The most important fighting method of the war zone in the course of combat was the’TianLu’tactic. Although this tactic was raised by XueYue in1941, it had already been practiced in the mid of1930s. During the period of war, XueYue succeeded in preventing the Japanese capture Changsha three times by apply this tactic, but in1944, when Xue applied the tactic again to prevent the Japanese troop, he failed. It’s clear the’TianLu’tactic is not perfect.During the period of war, the Hunan government took several measures to promote the military service work, including established the institute of military service, propagandized in the rural area, gave preferential treatment to the new recruits and their family, gave pention to the family whose relatives died in the battle. Generally speaking, the military service work in Hunan during the war had got great achievement, comparing to Sichuan, Guizhou and the base of CPC, the military service work in Hunan had its characteristics, but the service work in Hunan during the war also had some defects, including the officers in rural area contend benefits for themselves, the military officers abused the new recruits.During the period of war, the senior officers of the9th war zone had some trends in age, in education background and in faction, comparing to other war zone, the senior officers of the9th war zone also had some defects. In the area of officer training, the central military academe trained many officers for the9th war zone, but the training also had some defects, such as there were some unrealistic phenomenons in the course of training. Except the central military academe, the officer training regiment of the9th war zone also undertaken the mission of training officers, the training of the regiment was very productive, especially in breaking the traffic route. In the area of soldier training, the9th war zone paid attention to the training of new recruits. To promote the military quality of soldiers, the war zone send some troops to participate the third phase of training and consolidation in1940, through this practice, the fighting capacity of the troop improved clearly.In general condition, the9th war zone took several measures to purchase, transport and store the grain for the army. In the combat condition, the rear service department of the9th war zone was responsible for the army in the front line. In the fighting, this department took several measures to meet the needs of Chinese army, including revised the supply lines, transported ammunitions and grain for the army and transferred the wounded to the rear area. In the aspect of weapons and equipments, the troops of the9th war zone were different, some hold good weapons, some hold bad weapons. But in terms of certain forces, their weapons and equipments were better than the Japanese troop no matter from the quantity and quality.
