A thesis presented in the educational management in higher education. It was based on the thought of the importance of work ethic. More people fail at or lose their jobs because of personal qualities or inappropriate attitudes than because of insufficient knowledge or skills. According to Tim Hatcher, positive attitudes toward work and work ethic are more important to job success and employability. Hence, work ethic is very important and effects on work productivity.In higher education, lecturers’work ethic is needed to improve higher education productivity. Therefore, the increase of work ethic of lecturers was needed. In accordance it, understanding factor that effect on work ethic will help fill.The work ethic was understood as a fundamental attitude toward respect on work base on beliefs. According to McGuire, attitude is not stable and can be changed by the quality within an organization. The total environmental quality within an organization is namely Organizational Climate. Organizational climate is an indication of an organization’s culture as perceived by the institutional members, and it may be different by each member. Further, it will take effect to the work ethic of members. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of organizational climate to faculties’work ethic. This study was tried to find out the effect of eight dimensions of organizational climate to seven dimensions of the work ethic.This study was used a causal correlational research non experimental, as well as descriptive research. Data were collected from60of170faculty members of the Faculty of Education, at State University of Jakarta. Data analysis has consist of the data description, two ways variance analysis, the assumption test, and hyphotesis test. Regression analysis was used to answer the research questions.Based on the data was obtained, the condition of organization climate in the faculty of science education at a moderate level. The conditions of work ethic was not much different from the condition of organization climate also. Based on the results of two way analysis of variance, the conditions of organizational climate and work ethic was possibly influenced by educational degree. There was not a significant main effect for gender type. The type of gender appeared to have no effect, however, when the educational degrees were included in the work ethicRegression analysis has resulted that there was a positive and significant correlation between organizational climate on work ethic. Nevertheless, it is possible there are many factors that affect the work ethic. Duly found positive and significant correlations between organizational climates with work ethic, the further hyphotesis test was done using multiple regressions with "enter" and "stepwise" method. Based on the analysis, it was found that almost all of the variance of organizational climate takes effect on variant of work ethic. Organizational design was a predictor which has capable of predicting each dimension of work ethic. Decision making was a dimension of organizational climate which has negatively correlated with several variant work ethic. Motivation dimension was the one and only which has not predicted the condition of the work ethic.Further study is needed to understand why the dimensions of motivation cannot predict the conditions of work ethic, and why the decision making dimension has contributed negatively to the work ethic. For further study, the authors suggest conducting an in-depth study with a qualitative approach.
