College students’ association is set up by a common sense of life, hobbies, professional expertiseand academic orientations. It is an inform group which has a clear goal and conforms to therequirements of the college association management department. Nowadays, it is an important topic ofhigher education research, that college students’ association is related to the students’ success anddevelopment. So it is necessary to understand the current situation of college students’ association fromdifferent perspectives. This thesis discusses fundamental theories of college students’ associationincluding individual, group, organization theory and attaches great importance to valves of the all-rounddevelopment theory, students demand theory and organization model of Levitt. In this thesis, themethods including literature method, questionnaire survey method, interview and other methods areused to discuss the basic theory, history and characteristic, type and structure, function and evaluation,and other aspects of college students’ association.“The Anti-Russian Blood Association” was founded in1904by Imperial University of Peking andit marked the rise of college students’ association. The development of Chinese college students’association has experienced three main stages including germination, exploration, and maturity stages.In terms of previous researches, college students’ association shows distinct characteristics as follows:entertainment and openness of association activities, voluntary and universality of association members,organization and dependence of association management, radiation and innovation of associationfunction, instability and nonprofit of association goals and randomness and arbitrary of associationmanagement.According to the contents of activities, college students’ association can be divided into seventypes, such as the performing arts, sports, science and technology innovation, theoretical research,undertaking practice, public service and cultural exchanges. Among these seven types, science andtechnology innovation type and theoretical research type greatly depend on their own subjects. Collegestudents’ association includes four kinds of organization structure: interest oriented organizationstructure, function oriented organization structure, target oriented organization and matrix organizationstructure, among which the matrix organization achieves higher evaluation and honor than the otherthree.Functions of college students’ association include career development function, personalexperience, platform carrier, self-improvement and joyful body and mind. It is found that collegestudents’ association has more influence on male students. With foreign exchanges or not, organizationstructure, quantity of advisers and leadership style also have certain impact on the function of collegestudents’ association. The member of students association consider the team spirits, segregation ofduties, prospects and association influence when they evaluate the college students’ association. Certaingender differences, household registration and students’ experience will affect their evaluations of association. Besides, the type of association, organization structure, leadership style and culturalexchange will also have influence on the evaluations of association. Students enjoying higher honorsand rewards will have higher evaluations of association. By using regression analysis and modelverification, it is found that firstly, association evaluation, association function and personality traits canexplain the31.6%variation of association involvement. Secondly, association evaluation, associationinvolvement, leadership style, neuroticism and extroversion of personality traits can explain the55.9%variation of association function. Thirdly, association function, the time of association establishment,association involvement, extroversion and dissimulation of personality traits can explain the54.7%variation of association evaluation. Fourthly, there is stable relationship between associationinvolvement, association function and association evaluation.Based on researches of Chinese college students’ association, educators should clear theclassification standard and function definition of association, encourage setting up matrix organizationstructure of association to promote students’ developments. For another, educators should ensure thesynergetic development of association to promote the cooperation between college students’ associationand social organization, college, university and research institute. Furthermore, the content of evaluationshould be systemized, especially should meet the basic demand of students, which can use theexperience of other countries for reference. Finally, considering association as a way of students’development, educators should respect different kinds of values and keep students’ rights to create ademocratic atmosphere for the development of association.
