College students associations, as non-profit organizations formed voluntarily by studentshaving the same interests and habits, is an important way to develop habits, expandknowledge, enlarge social group, enrich school life, realize self-value and to pass downprecious social culture. At the same time, because of their social functions of promotingstudents’ socialization, developing civic awareness, maintaining social stability and carryingon socialist valuable culture, college students associations have became the most participatedand influential college autonomous organizations. Through empirical study on the functionsof several college associations located in Tianjin, the author finds out that there are someproblems existing in associations’ developments and functions, such as unbalanceddevelopment, low-quality activities, severe stuff lost and funds shortage. These problems aremainly caused by unclear association orientation and lack of safeguard system. By drawing onthe management experience of American college associations, this thesis offers somesolutions and advices to ensure the associations’ normal operation and management, and topromote their functional performance. These solutions and advices includes self-orientationclarification, management system completion and management conception updating.This thesis is divided into five parts, and each part focus on a certain topic.The first part is the exordium. Mainly discusses the reason, purpose and meaning of thisthesis, the current status of foreign and domestic college students associations, and analysison some relevant resources.The second part is an theoretical analysis on the functions of college studentsassociations, focusing on some concepts and social theories that conduct this research, andtheir guiding influence to this thesis.The third part introduces the empirical research design on college students associations’functions. Mainly discusses the research hypothesis, research object, research methods anddata processing methods.The fourth chapter is the findings from researching and analyzing college studentsassociations. The author sums up main characteristics of Tianjin college associations byresearching on their existing problems and current status, and then analyzes the factors thathave impacts on their function performance.The fifth chapter are some suggestions for promoting the function of college studentsassociations. Based on the research results and the current status of Tianjin collegeassociations, and by using relevant research achievements, the author offers some solutionsand advices that may help the college students associations’ development. Conclusion: The author summarizes the thesis, points out the deficiencies of this research,determines the directions in future studies and lays the foundation for deeper research onpromoting associations’ function from the view of sociological theories.
