Urban-rural Cultural Integration In The Process Of Urbanization

It is widely appreciated that the imbalance between urban and rural culture comes into being in China's rapid urbanization. They are becoming the new situations on China's urban-rural cultural development with growing wider between urban and rural cultural lag, increasing grim between urban and rural cultural conflict and urban-rural distinctive culture which has been disappearing. The problem is that in face of rapid and large-scale urbanization in China, we, researchers or officers, should ask ourselves whether we make enough preparation for culture, whether it will result in the missing of the traditional culture, and whether there should be more new ideas in the aspects of accelerating the integration of urban and rural development. Not only that, we also look forward to a breakthrough in these problems. For example, from social development-oriented perspective, cultural factors should be taken into sustainable development strategies' consideration; from disciplinary development-oriented perspective, cultural turn should be highlighted in economic geography studies. The cultural integration of existing research, however, was either focused on corporation culture, or the alienation of theory from practice, which led to a relative deficiency of Chinese urban and rural cultural practice guidance and cannot effectively meet the needs of a major integrated development of urban and rural Chinese culture in practice. So, the importance and urgency of the urban-rural cultural integration are increasingly highlights, whether it is the practical needs of urban and rural cultural development, or the internal need of the disciplinary development of human geography.Integration of urban and rural culture refers to an organic and harmonious cultural system processes in which the various elements interacting with each other in urban-rural culture system of two parallel. It is neither the simple sum or mechanical patchwork of the two cultures, nor a party to assimilate or combine with the other party, nor compromise without principle, but a creative synthesis and a process in which urban and rural area with nearer cultural system disappear or change morphology. Differences between urban and rural areas of the two cultures are the basis of urban and rural cultural integration. The differentiation integration is the prerequisite for the integration of urban and rural cultural, and the differentiation development is the purpose of cultural urban-rural cultural integration.The logic thought in the study follows the mainline of "question consciousness-theoretical foundation-multidimensional perspective-model construction". By exploring the plight of the urban and rural cultural development and using the relevant theoretical knowledge in cultural geography, cultural sociology and cultural ecology, the paper, from multi-dimensions and multi-perspective is to resolve problems in urban-rural cultural integration mainly containing conflict and integration, progressive and mutation, and heterogeneousness and homogeneousness and explore the spatial and temporal structure of urban and rural cultural integration and development orientation using the relevant theoretical knowledge in cultural geography, cultural sociology and cultural ecology.The overall objective of this study is to reveal the geographical law in the process of cultural integration; to provide a research model in the development of new cultural geography; to ensure that urban and rural masses will enjoy equal public cultural services, and provide intellectual support and theory menus for the integration of urban and rural development; to provide policy options for the breakthrough of the urban-rural cultural dual structure and the new patterns of formation and integration of urban and rural cultural strengths. The paper is divided into nine chapters which contain the contents of the seven key research areas.The first chapter is the introduction. Stating from new issues arousing from China's rapid urbanization in China's urban and rural cultural development, this chapter is to propose research objectives, content and framework and drafting methods and technology roadmap.The second chapter is to analyze China's urban-rural dual cultural structure in the process of urbanization. Starting from the urbanization process in China, this chapter is to resolve the evolution of urbanization in China's urban-rural dual cultural structure, performance characteristics and existing problems. The main question should be answered from the logical point is what are the reasons for or background of urban-rural cultural integration.The third chapter is to seek cultural theoretical support from urban-rural integration. Culture is a term which included a wide range of contents and is not one discipline done independently. The paper from cultural geography, cultural sociology, cultural ecology, regional science and other multi-dimensional perspective on the social phenomenon of urban-rural culture seeks to basis for solving integration problems.The fourth chapter is to describe the spatial elements of urban-rural cultural integration. Cultural node, cultural corridor, cultural domain surfaces (network) is the basic element of the spatial structure of urban-rural cultural integration. It is necessary to systematically analyze the law of combination, associations, and evolution of these elements for the urban-rural cultural integration.The fifth chapter is to construct space-time measure model in the process of integration.by defining the time dimension, analyzing time sequence characteristics and time interval characteristics in urban-rural cultural spread, and relating integration with human phenomena such as sensitive group for culture and information flow of urban-rural culture, the space-time measure model will be constructed.The sixth chapter is to interpret the spatial and temporal structure of urban and rural cultural integration. Through the introduction of relative theories on spatial and temporal characteristics of social and cultural development, the paper chooses a case study of Wuhan city circle, under the background of the rapid development of urbanization during nearly 30 years of reform and opening up, to systematically analyze the spatial and temporal structures of integration at the rural county level in Wuhan city circle and to seek the reasons for the formation of the structure by the perspective of the combination of history and reality.The seventh chapter is to interpret the dynamic mechanism of urban-rural cultural integration. Interpretation of internal and external driving forces of urban-rural cultural integration will be unfolded from four perspectives, that is, government, business, NGO, and the cultural integration mechanism will be focused on the perspective of system dynamics.The eighth chapter is to propose cultural development model of urban-rural cultural integration. By analyzing the development model of case area from different operational levels, space vector, metric dimensions and body composition studies, the basic characteristics, spatial structure, operation rule, criteria, forming mechanisms and implementation strategy and so on will be scientifically discussed.The ninth chapter is the conclusions and outlook. This chapter is to summarize the main conclusions, innovation of this paper and prospects for further research.
