In the early modern world of economic globalization,the New England colonies of British North America wielded a pivotal significance.On the one hand the colonies werea product of economic globalization,themselves being a symbol of the expansion of European capitalism economy into North American.On the other hand,they werean important player and even the driving forces of economic globalization at that time.Theirparticipation in the Atlantic world economy fundamentally shiftednot only their own economic development direction but also that of the whole North American.The consequence was rapid advancement in the level of commercialized economy and profound social and cultural transformation.As the participant of economic globalization,New England interconnected all Atlantic world through trade,which accelerating the process of the economic integration between the old and the new world and thus having a profound impact upon the historical process of early modern economic globalization.The full paper is consisted of introduction,the chapters and conclusion.In the introduction is summarized the background of knowledge of the topic and the reason for choosing it,the definitions of certain concepts,the current status of domestic and international research,the research targets of this paper,the major issues and the academic difficulties to be solved,and the innovations and the limitations of this research.Chapter 1deals with the inception ofNew England commercial economyin the first half of the 17 thcentury.Specifically,how it started in the context of the budding economic globalization,its being directly influenced by the early modern economic globalization and the British economic transformation,the reasonsfor the Puritan GreatMigration and its population make-up,and the foundation laid by the soil,climate,and resourcesof New England for its embarkation on commercialization.Leaving behind temporary economic difficulties,New England eventually established an economic development model based on a diversified economy.Chapter 2focuses on the progression of New England economic commercialization from the last half of the 17 th century to the pre-revolution period.The analysis principally involves the aspects of the Atlantic TradeSystem,the growth in New England exportation,the development of the division of economic roles among regions,the Consumer Revolution and the IndustriousRevolution.Chapter3 analysesthedriving forcesand the mechanisms behind the economic commercialization,including population growth and Puritan thoughts,the growth of Mercantilism andeconomic liberalism,the development of currency and credit and so on.Chapter 4discussed the consequences of economic commercialization,including the changing relationships between New England and Great Britain as the former acted both as a market and a competitor to the latter,urbanization and the transformation of social structure,the progress in culturalundertakings,education and the growth of cultural self-confidence.Conclusion summarized and concluded the paper,including the changing role ofthe New England economic commercialization in the Atlantic world and therole the New England economic commercialization plays in promoting the economic globalization.
