Technological progress and industrial change have contributed to the rapid development of the global economy, but since the outbreak of coronavirus disease, reassessing the true cost of creative destruction during process of economic change has become a new topic.Economic Change and Wellbeing: The True Cost of Creative Destruction and Globalization written by Fabio D’Orlando,Francesco Ferrante and Albertina Oliverio, professors of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cassino,Italy, analyzes the cost of change from labor market and argues that appropriate policy adjustments allow more people to enjoy benefits of technological progress.Translation of economic texts is an effective way to study foreign scholars’ research on economic development. The author selects this book as the original text in this translation practice, translating selected chapters, and completing this practice report. It is an economic text, characterized by objective language, rigorous expression and diverse vocabulary, including many passive sentences and long sentences, which are tough problems to be mainly analyzed. There are four parts in this report, including description of translation task, translation procedure, case analysis and conclusion.Based on Skopos theory of Hans Vermeer, the author, combining with specific cases, analyzes the translation techniques and methods of economic English text from lexical and syntactic levels respectively, and writes this translation practice report. At lexical level, two translation techniques are used respectively, including part of speech conversion and word meaning extension. At syntactic level, translation of passive sentences and long sentences are dealt with.Translation of passive sentence is analyzed from three aspects, including translation into Chinese passive sentence, active sentence and determinative sentence. For translation of long sentences, techniques of division, back translation and reconstruction are mainly used.In this translation practice report, the author analyzes and summarizes problems encountered during translation in order to provide some reference for the application of Skopos theory in the translation of economic English texts.
