With the development of urban sociology,urban public space and social culture has become the focus of many disciplines,including historical urban geography.The study of this paper mainly from the public space in the field of urban and social research,not only to urban public space as a medium for expressing the social development process,more important is that people into space,and show on its participation,communication and transmission.The Chang'an city of the Sui and Tang dynasties is an important node in the evolution of the ancient Chinese urban spatial structure.It is not only a turning point in the capital from the square to the market,but also laid a model for the suburbs of the southern suburbs-the ancestral temple and the country.Therefore,this article draws lessons from the theory of public space in the west,analyzes and interprets the public space of Chang'an City from the perspective of historical urban geography,urban sociology and communication,combining with the fruitful achievements of Chang'an city in the last hundred years.In this paper,the Chang'an city of the Sui and Tang public space as the main line,select the public space system of streets,gardens and temples as three different levels are discussed in detail,discusses the layout,evolution and structure of the public space of the city,and then discusses the function and influence of the public space,and tries to show different levels of public space system behind the ruling authority,the city spread and social control,as well as communication and control functions and significance.This paper is divided into seven chapters.Chapter one:introduction.Starting from the concept and theory of the western public space,combined with the different origins of Chinese and Western cities and the development of ancient Chinese urban space,clarify the origin of China City universality and Chinese capital spatial structure of the political and ceremonial characteristics,introduces the origin,research object,research methods and research ideas of this paper.The second,third and fourth chapters are the second part,is the construction and succession of public space.This part discusses the construction and succession of public space at different levels of Chang'an city of the Sui and Tang dynasties according to the factors,and the richness and characteristics of public activities.From the streets,gardens and temples of different public space system for specific analysis and display.The street public space activity,which is dominated by various ritual ceremonies,is the display of Confucian cosmology as a national ritual in public space,and exists in the urban construction as the space and carrier of state etiquette.In addition,Chang'an City,a variety of secular activities staged the streets to become the stage,to attract and gather all sectors of society to participate actively.The community's awareness and value generated gradually,became inducement of the city people to break the closed city square space structure,Agglomeration and flow of incentives,contributed to the evolution of the secularization of the street.With blessing bureaucrats In the Royal Qujiang,Jinshi tour Qujiang,all the people with the music in Qujiang,Qujiang has been far beyond the nature of the garden,gathered all social stratas from the emperor to the common people.More modem sense of the meaning of the public,and gradually evolved into Chang'an City and even the ancient Chinese capital of the unique public space model,became the spirit of the Tang Dynasty and cultural symbols,and even become cultural and scholarly spiritual home of the traditional Chinese society.Under the politicized dominant urban spatial pattern,temple of public space has become the most representative urban public space in the ancient Chinese city.Temple combined the people's entertainment needs,the temple's social needs and the domination of the country,mutual promotion and intertwined.Ultimately,the spontaneous bottom-up unique public space of development model was formed.Temple from the opening of the temple to the vulgar and opera,and to the temple fair of the Song dynasty,the combination of religious mystery and secularization forms the process of spatial publicization of ancient Chinese cities.Due to the particularity of the construction of Chang'an city,the Chang'an city of Sui and Tang dynasties gradually formed three kinds of public space systems,which are different from each other.The three kinds of public space include the ritualized public space system represented by the streets at the beginning of Capital construction,the symbolic public space system that development of the imperial examination system in the process of the gradual formation of Qujiang as the representative of the culture,as well as the secularized public space system that urban social life under the influence of the religious cover.The game,hook,make up and integration of the three kinds of public space deduced and constructed the urban space public evolution of the Sui and Tang Dynasties city nearly three hundred years.The fifth and sixth chapters are the third part,which is the function and influence of the public space.This part analysis from two levels,the public space and urban communication,the public space and social control.And discusses the functions and Social Significance of three kinds of public space systems with the public space ritual,Symbolic,symbol and the theory of urban social geography.To build a social function with Chinese traditional social characteristics,especially the"power-space" analysis,from the social and cultural levels show the the social impact of public space of Chang'an City under the closed structure.The symbolic meaning of Chang'an City and the cultural consensus formed around Chang'an City are gradually accumulated and superimposed in different public space propaganda circle structure.The communication system formed around the public space of Chang'an City not only constructs the legitimacy of the Tang dynasty through the process of space ritualization,but also constructs the social consensus and cultural identity of the empire through the symbolic process of space.At the same time maintaining the city's social life development through the secularization of space process.Symbolic ritual public space and secular public space play a different role in the social control system,and with the weakening of the authority of the state,Qujiang and the temple as the representative of the various civilized ritual space in the national control system in the role of more and more obvious.Qujiang and the temple as the representative of the various civilized ritual space in the state control is more and more obvious.Explicit and implicit social control patterns are intertwined to play a role,shared with the role of social control and social integration.
