With the quick development of economy and society in ethnic areas in recent years,so as the ecological and cultural problems.It's urgent to change the development model from predatory and resource consumption to be sustainable and ecological.In order to achieve this goal,a large number of high-quality,localized professional and technical personnel are needed,and this is the reason why vocational education has been payed more and more attention.But it is visible that the current situation of vocational education in ethnic areas cannot take responsibility for these tasks because of the problems it has been confronted with.These problems are the flowing: firstly,the imbalance between instrumental rationality and value rationality,this leads ethnic minority people's diversity development appeals cannot to be satisfied.Secondly,the imbalance between modern technology and ethnic minority culture,this makes the ethnic minority culture which has more and more economic and cultural values has not to be relevantly concerned.Thirdly,the imbalance between generalization andlocalization,and this brings about the special talent demand cannot be considered fully.The resolving of these problems determines the development and value realization of vocational education in ethnic areas.The reasons are the following: first,the coping of the vocational education models of central and eastern China,second,too much attentions have been paid to the general professionalism than the local and ethnic characteristics of vocational education in ethnic areas,and these two reasons together result in the problems the vocational education in ethnic areas are facing.Ethnic character is comprehensive characteristics that generated by the special economy,society and culture in ethnic areas,including some aspects of economic,social and cultural of ethnic people.As a kind of educational form rooted in ethnic society,vocational education in ethnic areas must meet the "potential prescriptions" of the development of ethnic areas' economy,society,culture and people's needs.So it's important and meaningful to research the ethnic character of vocational education in ethnic areas from the actual demands of ethnic minority young people and the development of ethnic areas' economy and society,and this is the purpose of this study.By the case study and fieldwork of " 9 + 3 " program in Tibetan-inhabited areas in Sichuan,this paper tries to show the lack of ethnic character of vocational education in ethnic areas,and to reveal the negative effects such as the dislocation of talents supply and demand,the low "affinity" of vocational education,the "double discomfort" of students and so on.Then,it discusses the educational mechanism of compensation for the lack of ethnic character of vocational education in ethnic areas combined with literature work,and tries to put forward some operable strategies.It is found that it's necessary and possible for vocational education in ethnic areas to compensate ethnic character.Vocational education in ethnic areas is an important part of ethnic education,and “ethnic character” is the typical character which distinguishes with non-ethnic education.The “ethnic character”of vocational education in ethnic areas mainly reflects on the close association and interaction between vocational education and the cultural ecology and the development of people in ethnic areas.In order to obtain the driving force of development,to be more competitive by be different and characteristic,and to promote it's sustainable development,vocational education in ethnic areas must turn towards to ethnic areas,assimilate into ethnic areas deeply,develop and utilize natural and human resources in ethnic areas legitimately,and think over the particularity and development needs of people in ethnic areas.In addition,the compensation of “ethnic character” of vocational education inethnic areas is also possible.This based on the following three reasons: First,the direction of compensation for “ethnic character” is pointed out clearly by the explanation of what's “ethnic character” and how does it be generated,and by the accurate grasping of the real statue and reasons of the lack of “ethnic character” of vocational education in ethnic areas.Second,the construction of compensation educational mechanism could provide " theoretical " for the compensation for “ethnic character” of vocational education in ethnic areas,the specific compensation educational mechanisms are: to establish education objective to serve the transformation of economy and society development in ethnic areas,to set up professionals to combine with the supporting of characteristic industries in ethnic areas,to supply educational resources including “ethnic minority character” and "professional ".Third,to perfect practical strategies of vocational education in ethnic areas which could build a bridge to the compensation for “ethnic character” of vocational education in ethnic areas,and these practical strategies are: government to provide top design for vocational education in ethnic areas,and to build special institution security system,fund security system and employment policy,ethnic minority community to play important role on students' teaching practice and cultural conservation,vocational education in ethnic areas to implement the "people-oriented" concept,to coordinate relationship between the development of ethnic minority community and people,and to form educational power together with community,school and family.
