The Study On The Curative Effect Of Lai's Tong-yuan Acupuncture In Neurological Tinnitus Caused By Insufficiency Of Kidney Essence

ObjectiveTo investigate the effectiveness of Tong Yuan acupuncture in treating neurological tinnitus caused by insufficiency of kidney essence in comparison with oral intake of Chinese medicine granules based on a traditional decoction Er Long Zuo Ci Wan.To investigate the mechanism and strength of Tong Yuan acupuncture in treating the neurological tinnitus.MethodsThis study enrolled patients from a Chinese medicine clinic in Hong Kong and its outreach clinic services.100 patients who met the inclusion criteria are enrolled and randomly allocated into the Tong-yuan acupuncture group(experimental group)and the Herbal granules group(control group).The demographic data were collected and compared among the two groups before the intervention.The acupoints used in the Tong-yuan acupuncture group were Baihui(Du-20),Yintang(GV-29),Tinggong(SI-19),Neiguan(PC-6),Qihai(Ren-6),Guanyuan(Ren-4),and Taixi(KI-3),needles were inserted to the acupoints and manual manipulation of the needles were operated until the Deqi sensation was perceived by the subject.Treatment duration was 30 minutes per session,while manual manipulation of needles was carried out in 10-minute intervals.Subjects received intervention two times a week for 12 weeks.Subjects in the control group will take Chinese medicine granules prescribed based on the traditional decoction Er Long Zuo Ci Wan daily for 12 weeks.Clinical assessment was done before and in the end of the intervention.The effectiveness of the intervention was assessed by the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory(THI),the Tinnitus Evaluation Questionnaire(TEQ),and the Chinese Medicine Syndrome Scores.All the data were collected and analysed using software SPSS25.0.Results:This study recruited 100 subjects and were allocated to the Tong-yuan acupuncture group and the control group in 1:1 basis.50 subjects per group.There were 2 and 1 dropouts in the Tong-yuan acupuncture group and the control group respectively.The overall effectiveness of the Tong Yuan acupuncture group was higher than the control group(P<0.05).The THI,TEQ scores in both groups were significantly lower after treatment(P<0.05).Indicating that both treatments had curative effects on neurological tinnitus.Significant improvements in the Chinese Medicine Syndrome Scores were noticed in the end of the study.Indicating both treatments were able to improve the symptoms related to the insufficient kidney essence type of neurological tinnitus.While Tong Yuan acupuncture group showed a more significant improvement in the level of tinnitus,and the fear of cold when compared to the control group.(P<0.05)The overall effectiveness of Tong Yuan acupuncture for neurological tinnitus was 97.91%while it was 75.51%in the control group.ConelusionTong Yuan Acupuncture is effective in improving symptoms of neurological tinnitus,so as the related somatic symptoms.It is a safe and effective treatment.
