Under the rapid development of urbanization in China,understanding the education demand of the children of rural migrant workers is of great significance.Not only is it an extension and supplement of the existing achievements in the research on the education of rural migrant workers' children,but also it further provides support and reference to the government in the formulation and perfection of education-related policies.In this paper,the questionnaire survey and field interviewing data gathered from six cities in three provinces,Guangdong,Zhejiang and Hubei,are taken as the basis,and mixed methods are adopted in the research.The demand theory and falily decision-making theory of the Economics are adopted in the empirical research on the education demand of the children of rural migrant workers.The paper is divided into five parts,including seven chapters.See the detailed content below:The first part is introduction.It is mainly the content of Chapter One.First of all,through the discussion of the relations among urbanization,population flow and household registration system,and the organization of the policy evolvement regarding the education of rural migrant workers' children,the research background is introduced.Secondly,the objective of this research is clarified,and the theoretical significance and practical value are elaborated.Finally,the core concepts of rural migrant workers,the children of rural migrant workers,education demand and education demand of the children of rural migrant workers are defined.The second part is literature review.It is mainly the content of Chapter Two.Above all,the relations between urbanization and education development are analyzed.It is hoped that the significance of the research on the education demand of the children of rural migrant workers under the background of urbanization can be revealed.Secondly,relevant literatures on the education demand of the children of rural migrant workers are organized from location selection,school type,intention of further study in the destination of migration,and education diversion after middle school,etc.Finally,through the elaboration of the demand theory and family education decision-making theory of the Economics,a theoretical framework of this research is constructed.The third part is research design.It is mainly the content of Chapter Three.Firstly,from the origin of this research,the three aspects of the research questions are determined,and they are the demands of location,school type,and and education diversion in the education of the rural migrant workers' children.Secondly,the features,selection and application of the mixed research methods are elaborated.Thirdly,the data source and sample selection in this research are introduced,and the sample characteristics are briefly described.Finally,the train of thought and structure arrangement are proposed.The fourth part is the empirical research on the education demand of the children of rural migrant workers.It includes the content of Chapter Four,Chapter Five and Chapter Six.It is the main body of this paper.The fourth chapter is on the urban and rural location demand in the education of the rural migrant workers' children.It is found out through research that 74%rural migrant workers hope their children can study at an urban school,18%hope their children can study at a school in the county,and 8%choose a rural school.Thus,it can be seen that the demand of education is diversified.It is suggested by the regression analysis that children's age,place of birth,stability of parents' job,salary level,Parents' aspirations of children's education in the town,and parents' evaluation of relevant education policies have significant influence on the education demand of the children of rural migrant workers.The fifth chapter is on the demand of school type in the education of the rural migrant workers' children.In accordance with the research findings,89%rural migrant workers hope their children can study at a public school in the city,and show very strong willingness and demand of accompanying children at public schools.Through the regression analysis,it is found out that parents' gender,age,education background,salary level and aspirations for their children to receive equivalent education,the schools' teaching faculty and education quality have significant influence on the demand of the school type in the education of rural migrant workers' children.The sixth chapter is on the demand of education diversion after middle school.In accordance with the research findings,86%rural migrant workers hope their children can take admission tests locally and show strong willingness and demand towards local tests.According to the research findings,93%rural migrant workers hope their children can study at a local general high school and show strong willingness and demand towards general high school.It is found through the regression analysis that parents' education background,job stability,salary level,awareness of policies,aspirations for their children to receive equivalent education and expectations of education from the family have significant influence on the demand of education diversion in the education of rural migrant workers' children.The fifth part is the research conclusions and policy suggestions.It is mainly the content of Chapter Seven.A profound analysis is conducted on the preference of rural and urban venues,school type,and education diversion after middle school in the education of rural migrant workers' children.In accordance with the research findings,the education demand of rural migrant workers' children presents characteristics of diversity and differentiation.The supply of urban education is deficient in total quantity and imbalanced in structure.Moreover,rural migrant workers have strong willingness and demand towards their children,s loeal admission tests and education at general high schools.Based on the above analysis,several suggestions are put forward in this paper.An urban-rural integration-based education development mechanism should be constructed,differentiated education supply strategies should be adopted,the conditions of examination registration for accompanying children should be reasonably formulated,and the supply of general high school education should be intensified.
