Role And Conflict-Study On The Professional Community Of Contemporary Architects

On the background of China's urbanization and social structure vicissitude,architect has became an explicit professional group.In the process of modernization,although different social groups encountered different difficulties,what encountered by the architect group is more typical in the perspective of urban development.The effect of globalization makes Chinese architectural features full of contradictions between national characteristics and non-national characteristics,so architects encounter a dilemma of limited choice in career.In addition to the architect group s own problems,their professional power was diminishing.Because of government's excessive influence,Architects has been losing their professional advantages and control of decision-making.Chinese contemporary architects group is facing a professional dilemma of losing professional autonomy,which will be a core element affecting their future development directions and patterns.In order to clarify the plight of the group of and the structural relationship in the field,we have to explore the causes of professional dilemma faced by architects group and find solutions to the dilemma.This article combines depth interviews,data collection,document analysis,participant observation and other methods of qualitative research.From the sociological perspective such as occupation,role and conflict,this article has been researched on the professional dilemma faced by architects groups.In addition,this study also came up with four new findings as follow.The development of Chinese contemporary architects groups affected by the modern western architectural culture consciousness.Under the situation,traditional Chinese architectural craftsman began to transform to architect with modern professional characteristics.Compared to the traditional Chinese architectural craftsman,western architect took the lead in establishment of architecture,and passed the law in the form of the professional power and professional content.In the long feudal society period,traditional Chinese architectural craftsman gradually got rid of the original "hundreds of workers" professional identity until Tang dynasty.In addition to the change of the professional identity,Chinese and western architects divided into different paths for a long period in the early time,and achieve convergence of group development in modern society.Based on the sociological perspective,the author found from the research that the career focus of architects is moving from building-design to humanistic care in urban space,sociological theory are acknowledged by architects,meanwhile learning from it.Architect's professional identity change leaded to the change of social status,however it didn't change the social structure that architects need to cling to power.They continue to obey power rather than the power of professional services.Resistance of the professional power and the counter of administrative power sparked clashes frequently between architects group and power elite.In the process of modern democracy system's construction,the institutional barrier which should exist well between Chinese architect's professional power and state power is not well established.The existing system of industry is a one-way architect management,not protecting architect's professional power well.Architecture is a symbol of national and state,the focus of contemporary architects group is the focus of contemporary and future urban development.Therefore,government should give more power to architects.Under the excessive intervention of state power,Chinese contemporary architects are lack of correct expression of subject consciousness comparing to western architects.The development of architect group and individual rely on the development of the city and social change.China's new urbanization movement provides some good policy dividends for Chinese architects.However,architect group also showed the periodic characteristics obviously.In the process of participation in urban renewal,architects generally encountered the problem that power elite projected personal consciousness on the design of public buildings,decision-making of the architect was replaced by administrative power.Which lead to a negative career-building circumstance among architect group.Though appearing resistance against excessive power,it is difficult to change the status in a short term.So when the conflict and contradiction reach a certain degree,a large number of architects were diverted as a coping mode of the group.Though architects encountered problems of mass in the process of urbanization,they still played a vital role for the China's urban culture heritage and renewal,as well as promoting the transformation of residents' individual consciousness and behavior in urban space.Architect's design process is the implantation of creative and production of knowledge,is a new mode of production,is the core factor to build China's architecture soft power.Architects are not only doing design work,from the point of view of the city,but also build comprehensive space of the city organic.City renewal is not only the change of the city image,but also the innovation of the city texture,the reconstruction of traditional public relations and the definition of the new city aesthetics.Meanwhile,the development of urban design by architects can retain culture and collective memory of the city,and various times could meet and merge in terms of va rious architecture work.
