The development of corporate universities is less than 20 years in China,and follow others randomly to construct without considering the fact and the demand of the corporates.Many corporates have not really understood the purpose of establishing corporate universities.In reality,some corporate universities have some problems in China,such as the lack of recognition of corporate knowledge gap,unsmooth knowledge connection and week ability of innovation incubation,which make the knowledge innovation activities of corporate universities less effect.In addition,there are also some enterprise universities with relatively weak capabilities of knowledge service and low levels of specialization.At the same time,a number of successful corporate universities also closely contacted with the strategic partners of corporates when employee education and training,optimized the integration of training resources of the upstream and downstream industry chain,and adopt effective tools and methods to sort out the knowledge processes of internal and external corporates,so as to become the think tanks of corporates.The following were reasons:Some corporate universities are only considered to have the function of training or knowledge transfer.The corporates do not have clear understanding of the comprehensive capabilities of corporate universities should have,and the factors of organizational capital which support the enhancement of corporate universities' capabilities have not been explored.In that context,how to match and upgrade the organizational capital and capability system of corporate universities has become a research topic with well practical and theoretical significance.This paper systematic research on the organizational capital and ability system of corporate universities.The knowledge activity holographic theory,social construction theory of technology and the theory of social network are applied into this research,and several research means are adopted such as literature research,interview research,grounded analysis,exploratory case study and configuration analysis.The paper reveals the dimensions of the organizational capital of corporate universities,further puts forward the model of organizational capital portfolio,analyses the capability system and its evolution law of corporate universities based on the perspective of knowledge activities,and explores the matching relationship between the organizational capital and the hierarchy of the capability system of corporate universities.The main research contents are shown as follows:Firstly,through in-depth interviews with middle and senior managers of corporate universities affiliated to several technology-based corporates,the classic grounded method is used to condense the dimension of the organizational capital of corporate universities with improved driving ability,analysed organizational capital of them combied with specific cases.It concludes that the dimensions of organizational capital of corporate universities include"internal teacher network capital","external teacher network capital","internal knowledge process capital","external knowledge process capital","tangible knowledge ba" and"intangible knowledge ba".It also explores the path and mechanism of organizational capital accumulation that support the capability system of corporate universities,reveals the rules of the enrichment and development of organizational capital based on the characteristics of knowledge activities,and further constructs the "steering wheel" model of organizational capital portfolio of corporate universities,opening up the cognitive "black box" of the research on organizational capital of corporate universities.Then,based on the process grounded analysis of typical cases of corporate universities and the assistant analysis of several cases,the paper deeply analyses the capabilities and functions of corporate universities should have in the development of corporates which providing high-level services for knowledge activities.It identifies the dimensions of the competency system of corporate universities affiliated to technological corporates in the traditional training stage,lifelong education stage,knowledge integration interface stage and knowledge center stage,including link-up education ability,knowledge upgrade ability,knowledge joint ability and knowledge hatch ability.This paper also proposed the notion of capability chain and analyzed its structure as well as the structure laws.The expanding process of the function system is concluded,which means the capability system of corporate university has evolved from single and simple to rich and complex,the boundaries of knowledge activities have evolved from small scope to larger scope.Corporate universities usually only undertake the link-up education function in preliminary stage,and then evolve into the knowledge connection ability and even knowledge incubation ability in corporate knowledge activity center gradually.There are certain relationships among the four kinds of abilities.The low cascade ability is the basis for the formation of high cascade ability,and the high cascade ability is also conducive to improving and upgrading low cascade ability.It is found that the knowledge activities undertaken by corporate universities are increasingly characterized by holographicity.Corporate universities not only have the ability of knowledge transfer such as skill training or staff knowledge upgrade,but also deeply participate in knowledge creation and knowledge application activities.Lastly,the paper explores the configuration relationship between organizational capital and capacity system by combining the qualitative comparative analysis of fuzzy sets with case studies.Based on the evaluation and theoretical analysis of the organizational capital of thirty-four corporate universities,the fsQCA3.0 software is used to construct the truth table,and calculates ten kinds of organizational capital portfolios and specific mechanism which match the capability level of corporate universities in the traditional training stage,lifelong learning stage,knowledge interface stage and knowledge center stage.It reveals the multiple pathway of the various combinations of organizational capital for enhancing the capability system of corporate universities,and explores that there is more than one way to improve the capability system of corporate universities.The upgrading of the capability system of corporate universities is based on the multi-factor mechanism of the configuration of organizational capital,and further analyses the "sequential" evolution law of organizational capital and the co-evolution path of capital and capacity system.It's found that internal knowledge process capital and internal teacher's network capital are the core factors improving capacity system of corporate universities.The paper is helpful to provide theoretical guidance for the accumulation of organizational capital and the improvement of capability system of Chinese corporate universities,and put forword the management inspiration for developing Chinese corporate universities.
