The present competition in the world finds its expression in science and technology on the one hand, and in talents on the other. To get a staunch stand in the rigid competition of the 21th century, China has to improve its national capability in the shortest possible time. At present, China is carrying on its overall capability improvement, and it goes without saying this movement is imperative in teachers' universities. Under the present social background, the research, on the factors which affect the Professional capability of the students in physics departments of tertiary schools, is of certain theoretical value and practical significance to strengthen the capability education toward the students in physics departments of tertiary school.This present thesis from the principle of psychology, and in line with the Party's educational policy and with cultivated objectives to which tertiary school education is oriented, it presents an preliminary treatment of the professional capability of the students in physics departments of teachers' universities. For a quantitative analysis of the professional capability and its relationship with other factors, two basic hypotheses are put forward: (1) The professional capability of every student is capable of showing itself initially during university time; (2) The experts are basically objective and fair in judging the professional capability according to students' performance.According to the five basic principles for formation of quota system, and by employment of "Expert Experimentation Method", this thesis has set up the estimating system for the professional capability of the students in physics departments of teachers' universities. In line with this estimating system and the theories and methods of educational estimation, the paper has carried out a quantitative analysis of the professional capability of university graduates and has conducted an adequate and effective analysis, and normal distribution check of the professional capability marks.The result shows itself adequate and effective in its marks. This estimation, so to speak, really reflects their professional capability.According to the two principles of research factors for choice, this thesis has established the following special aspects to carry on regressive analysis, which includes relationships between the professional capability and the following factors: (1) The status of new students in physics departments of teachers' universities; (2) The achievements of the various courses; (3) professional ideology; (4) Readings after class; (5) Interests and hobbies.Based on the analysis of the professional capability marks of research objectives, and by way of statistical methods such as plural linear regression, this thesis has traced down the factors that exert marked influence on their professional capability: (1) The marks of Chinese, mathematics and English in the five subjects required in the college entrance examination; (2) The achievements of the course of basic physics theories, educational theory and experiment and applied technology during university time; (3) The three aspects reflecting professional ideology; namely, a) whether or not to like to mix with middle school students, b) whether or not to cultivate one's ability to become a teacher often and consciously, c) whether or not to be willing to select the courses that are capable of improving teaching; (4) Readings on educational theories, and scientific and technological manufacture and experiment; (5) Interests in scientific and technological manufacture and speech activities. Then analysis of this has been conducted through connection with the basic principles of psychology, education and pedagogy.
