Engineering teachers in universities play a vital role in "outstanding engineers training plan" and the field of higher engineering education.The lack of competency research of engineering teachers and imperfect of performance evaluation system in Chinese universities seriously restricts the development of higher engineering education.How to identify the elements of the competency that influencing the performance of engineering teachers in universities,build the competency model of engineering teachers in universities,and build the performance evaluation system engineering teachers based on the competency has become one of the most pressing issues which is needed to be solved in Chinese higher engineering education field at present.Combining the competency theory and performance evaluation theory and other theories,using questionnaire investigation,principal component analysis,structural equation model,the grey relational analysis and other research methods,this dissertation follows the path of mechanism analysis—feature analysis—evaluation index—evaluation model—empirical analysis.The performance evaluation system of engineering teachers in universities based on competency is constructed.This research is in order to provide scientific evaluation mode and technical tools of the performance management of engineering teachers in universities and provide reasonable suggestions for improving competency and key performance of engineering teachers in universities.Specifically,the main research results include:(1)Exploring the characteristics of elements of competency of engineering teachers in Chinese universities.This dissertation analyzes the four dimensional element model of engineering teachers' competency in universities.Then in the framework of four dimensional elements model,it respectively discusses the characteristics of engineering teachers' competency from four aspects: the feature competency,teaching competency,researching competency and engineering practice competency.(2)Designing the performance evaluation index system of engineering teachers in universities based on competency mode.The dissertation builds the competency mode of engineering teachers in universities,selects the elements of engineering teachers' competency in universities preliminarily and refines engineering teachers' competency index system.Then selects the indicators further with the principal component analysis,and it result in the final position competency index system.Meanwhile,this dissertation designs the key performance index system of engineering teachers in universities.Then it fuses the “position competency indicators” and “key performance indicators” accordingly,and constructs the performance evaluation index system of engineering teachers in universities based on the competency and key performance.(3)Constructing the performance evaluation model of engineering teachers in universities based on competency mode.This dissertation presents the general framework of performance evaluation system of engineering teachers,analyzes the conduction relationship and evolutionary relationship between the competency and performance of engineering teachers in universities.On this basis,using hierarchy grey relational analysis method,the dissertation brings out the evaluating method of the performance evaluation index of engineering teachers.Meanwhile,it constructs orientation matrix model for evaluating the performance of engineering teachers in universities while the positon competency evaluation index is in vertical axis and key performance evaluation index is in horizontal axis.This orientation matrix model can be helpful for orientating the performance of engineering teachers in universities.(4)Carrying on the empirical analysis.The dissertation uses 243 engineering teachers as the research object,and get the assessment value of performance evaluation indexes through questionnaire survey from 243 engineering teachers.Then choose 10 engineering teachers from the same university and school to carry on the performance evaluation based on competency.And it orientates the performance of the 10 engineering teachers with the orientation matrix model of performance evaluation.In addition,this dissertation empirically tests the relationship between engineering teachers' competency and performance using structural equation model.On the basis,according to the empirical results,it proposes the performance optimization strategies based on competency for engineering teachers in universities.It includes four aspects: feature competency optimization,teaching competency optimization,researching competency optimization and engineering practice competency optimization.This dissertation bases on the current research of competency and performance evaluation of engineering teachers in universities,and researches on the performance evaluation of engineering teachers in universities from the angle of competency.Combining the competency theory and performance evaluation theory and other theories,using questionnaire investigation,principal component analysis,structural equation model,the grey relational analysis and other research methods,this dissertation builds the competency model of engineering teachers in universities,designs the performance evaluation index system of engineering teachers based on competency mode,constructs the orientation matrix model for evaluating the performance of engineering teachers in universities.There will be guidance and reference significance for improving the competency and performance of engineering teachers in unicersities.
