Abstract/Summary:
In times of great chaos and turbulence, such as today's business environment, many people turn to spiritual traditions to help them find meaning. This grounded theory study explored the interrelationship of leadership and Spirituality as defined by the leadership approaches of spiritual leaders. Four leadership dimensions (worldview, authenticity, mastery, and service) and 17 characteristics were identified. Soulful leadership, a conceptual theory based on these findings, embraces the human pursuit to become a holistic, integrated person through inner transformation. Soulful leaders use an inner-directed and other-focused philosophy that emanates from their transcendent-focused worldview. This approach creates a relationship that provides faith, hope, empowerment, and ultimately meaning in life and work.
