Abstract/Summary:
Previous studies have focused on several different factors that affect a childcare counselor's level of burnout, but there had yet to be a study that explored developing and implementing a training program on burnout for childcare counselors. This study presented a training on burnout to childcare counselors (N=33) currently employed at a youth residential facility in the Midwest. The purpose of the study was to determine if: childcare counselors with a high level of burnout would find the training to be beneficial compared to childcare counselors with a low level of burnout; the impact a client's gender may have on a childcare counselor's level of burnout; and determine whether childcare counselors who work with opposite-gendered clients would score differently than their counterparts on the Areas of Worklife Survey. No significant results were produced, but several trends did emerge within the findings, with the most significant trend indicating all childcare counselors finding the training to be beneficial.
