Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was fourfold. The first was to assess the importance of the curriculum topics included in this study. The second purpose was to examine baccalureate health administration programs with respect to curriculum topics currently being offered. The third was to identify a core of curriculum topics common to most undergraduate health administration programs. The fourth objective was to determine curriculum changes and trends with respect to topics offered in undergraduate health administration programs.;A self-administered questionnaire was developed to collect data on health administration curriculum topics. The questionnaire was mailed to 149 colleges and universities identified as sponsoring baccalaureate-level education in health administration. Chi-square and rank order were used to analyze and report the data. Major conclusions were that a high degree of curriculum topic standardization exists among undergraduate programs in health administration and that the 22 topics utilized for this study represent a common core curriculum. Health administration program leadership has been responsive to the factors that influence curriculum change as is evidenced by the changes in topic offerings reported in this study.
