Abstract/Summary:
The general problem stems from where Information Technology workers seized the opportunity to voluntarily move from organization to organization in order to obtain a better position or pay, leaving organizations with holes in talent, skills, and knowledge. Since the downturn of the economy, organizational downsizing and hiring freezes put a damper on the number of available IT jobs. In the midst of hiring freezes and downsizings, survivors of these organizations were affected by the additional work that was given to them. The specific problem involves the need to understand how survivor attitudes and behaviors change during declining economic times because of the additional stresses incurred. This quantitative study involves an examination of the survivor's intent to leave the organization during this time and also examines if there is an increase or decrease in organizational commitment and voluntary turnover.
