The Research Of Chinese Community Garden

The rapid urbanization process has caused serious social,food and environmental problems in China.As one of the responding strategies,community gardens emerge in large numbers and develop rapidly in many cities.However,the role of these community gardens varies significantly: some community gardens are serving as key media for promoting interaction between residents,ensuring food safety,and improving the community environment,while others cause social contradictions and public doubts due to the problems of land ownership,space design,organization,management and operation.At the same time,existing research lacks holistic research,theoretical guidance and systematic strategies for Chinese community gardens,which also limits the sustainable development of community gardens to a certain extent.In this context,to comprehensively explore Chinese community gardens,deeply analyze the cause of above different benefits,and propose development strategies for community gardens has become necessary.The thesis comprehensively uses literature research,GIS spatial analysis,case study,questionnaire survey,SPSS data analysis and other methods to conduct the research of Chinese community gardens from three aspects: theoretical research,present situation analysis and strategy construction.(1)In the aspect of theoretical research,the thesis reviews the planning and design ideas related to community garden,clarifies the contemporary development trends of community garden,and comprehensively analyzes the theoretical research on community garden at home and abroad from the aspects of the policy environment,design pattern,participation mechanism,benefits,and social capital and community garden.(2)In the aspect of present situation analysis,the thesis explores the overall spatial layout characteristics and deeply analyzes the current design pattern and participation mechanism of Chinese community gardens.At the same time,it analyzes the benefits and problems of community gardens from the perspective of different stakeholders,and concludes that the social role of community garden is significant but the problems are mostly concentrate on policy and regulation,planning and design,social participation,management system,and operation mode.Based on the analysis of the cause of the problem,it puts forward that the understanding of the social role of Chinese community garden should be strengthened,and the design strategies and participation mechanism of community garden should be establish,which can be used to guide the construction of community garden.(3)In the aspect of strategy construction,the thesis introduces the social capital theory,and clarifies the social role of community garden,which refers to Chinese community garden can establish trust,social network,norm,and promote the cultivation of social capital.Then,it further selects the spatial and social factors affecting the formation of social capital.Based on the influence degrees of different factors,it develops community garden design strategies and participation mechanism with the goal of social capital cultivation.Specifically: at the design strategies level,it analyzes the typical community garden cases,establishes site selection strategies based on different priority levels and spatial design strategies at the community scale,and verifies the design strategies with practices;at the participation mechanism level,puts forward the ways and methods of establishing multiple stakeholders collaborately cooperating organizational model,improving the management and supervision system,and launching diverse operation activities,describes the effectiveness of participation mechanism,and discusses supporting policy system for community gardens.The thesis establishes the comprehensive understanding of Chinese community gardens from both the theoretical research and case study levels.At the same time,it describes and emphasizes the social role of community garden based on social capital theory,and further constructs community garden design strategies and participation mechanism with the goal of social capital cultivation,which can be of great significance for breaking through development barriers,scientifically guiding the construction of community gardens,and giving full play to the positive role of community gardens.
