Research On Spatial Forms Of Characteristic Towns In Nantong Based On Typo-morphology

The development of "characteristic towns" has been a topic of discussion among politicians,scholars and the public since the central government implemented the relevant policies nationwide in 2016.It is expected to be a new urbanization path and a new solution to urban diseases.Since then,many "characteristic towns" across the country have been nominated and certified.However,there are many shortcomings and misunderstandings in the process of shaping characteristics.Of course,there are many factors affecting the development of small towns,including material and non-material aspects,such as society,economy and culture.This paper focuses on the spatial characteristics and urban forms of the towns in Nantong,Jiangsu province,famous for Jian Zhang,a well-known modern entrepreneur,politician and educator,who built the first industrial characteristic towns in modern China--Tangzha.It is intended to explore the space morphology of the characteristic towns and provide guidance for the design of future towns.In addition to the first chapter introduction,the article is divided into six chaptersChapter 2,through reviewing the research results of small towns,featured small towns and morphological typology at home and abroad,the paper proposes the quantitative research and analysis method of space syntax,space mate and architectural typology on spatial morphology of small towns,and establishes the spatial morphological element system of Nantong characteristics small towns.Chapter 3,the author makes a diachrony analysis of Zhang Jian’s urban system of "one city and three towns" and the spatial evolution of Tangzha,the first small town featured by the cotton textile industry in modern China.Then,through the comparative analysis between Tangzha and other featured towns in Nantong urban system,Tiantiangang town and Langshan town,the paper explores the influence of different driving factors on the spatial form of featured towns.A comparative study between Tangzha and Letchworth,the first garden city born in the same period,analyzes the similarities and differences between Howard and zhang Jian’s ideas of small-town construction and the influence of the external environment on the space form of small towns.Chapter 4,comprehensive analysis of Nantong region,scale,the overall shape of the distribution of small towns,sums up the different characteristics of the development of small towns in the history of Nantong driver development stage driver types and the features of development,according to the selection of these factors have a certain population,economic basis of small towns as the Nantong feature space analysis of small towns in sample,and according to its features in different development driver into traffic location,industry market,historical literature brigade three categories.Chapter 5,the spatial form elements in the sample towns are sorted out,analyzed and made typological statistics by using the quantitative research and analysis method of the spatial form of featured small towns summarized above.Chapter 6,draw lessons from biological gene related concepts and research methods,create the shape elements,form type and form type deep structure of the relationship between portfolio model,put forward "form","chain" concept,establish Nantong characteristic small towns space form type coding system,and map Nantong characteristic morphology types of small towns,sums up the different types of Nantong characteristic small towns space form the basic characteristics and form type combination mode of objective law and internal logic.Chapter 7,the paper expounds the importance of urban design for a unique small town space form,put forward the urban design methods based on the characteristics of space form types of small towns,small towns according to the characteristics of the morphological characteristics of space and the design elements of the urban design,according to different types of characteristics of small cities and towns,puts forward coordinated development driving factors and the external environment influence factors of urban design of Nantong characteristic towns.About one hundred years ago,Nantong was a well known "model county".It is a model of urban construction and industrial development in modern China and a model for other regions to learn from.With the introduction of the concept of characteristic towns,Nantong,which has a long history of the development of characteristic towns,a good economic environment and unique location advantages,will again get extensive attention through the construction of characteristic towns.Based on the reality,this paper puts forward scientific and effective urban design methods and strategies for characteristic towns in view of the difficulties and cofusions in the process of its development.Although only the towns in Nantong are discussed,the research methods and approaches can be applied to most of other towns in China and even the world.
