The Peacocks Fly Southeast is a famous long narrative poem of Han Yuefu, which is called “Yuefu Shuangbi” with Ode of Mulan. After the May 4th New Literature Movement,it has become a household poem due to the adaptation in textbook and drama. However, until now it has still less researched on the adaptation of The Peacocks Fly Southeast in ethnic languages in ethnic-group habitations. As a script of Laibin Shigong Drama performed in the form of Zhuang folk songs,The Peacocks Fly Southeast in Zhuang is still circulating and performing nowadays, which shows its strong vitality and high acceptance. This thesis devotes to the linguistic and philologic study based on the script of The Peacocks Fly Southeast in Zhuang and finds the local features of its language and character, and the unique cognitive way of thinking of the Zhuang people. In terms of language, the script reflects the Zhuang dialect's phonetic characteristics, unique vocabularies and special grammatical phenomena in the area of Wushan Town,Xingbing Disctrict in Laibing City.In terms of character, the Diamond-Shaped Characters used in the script are mostly borrowed from Han characters and mainly indicating the sounds. And the metaphor and metonymy of vocabularies about body parts, animals and plants in the script shows unique cognitive way of thinking of Zhuang people. This thesis consists of eight parts. The first part,Introduction, mainly introduces the origin of the study, summarizes the relevant researches and development trends at home and abroad, and introduces the content, purpose, significance, methods and steps of this study.Chapter One mainly introduces the script's source, format, plot and characters, while analyzes its localization features after the Zhuang adaptation and transplantation from Han Yuefu.Chapter Two applies broad transcription to record the field data, induces the phonology, and summarizes the phonetics and the correspondence laws of the Chinese loanwords in the script.Chapter Three uses the scientific method to analyze the statistics of characters in the script, calculate the word frequency and grade it into high-frequent characters and low-frequent characters, based on which the Diamond-Shaped Characters used in the script can be researched and divided into Chinese-loaned characters,self-made characters and coincident characters.A further discussion is focused on the borrowing sources and shape evolution of the Chinese-loaned characters, and the making methods of the self-made characters.Chapter Four,Five and Six focus on the linguistic study and also the key parts of the thesis.Chapter Four begins with the classification of Chinese loanwords,in which the borrowed methods are divided into two types, the all-borrowed type and semi-borrowed type, and with the distribution of nine semantic categories of Chinese loanwords. Then this chapter summarizes three semantic changes of Chinese loanwords,i.e.broadening,narrowing,and shifting, and two grammatical changes,i.e.conversation of part of speech and grammaticalization of content words. Finally, three representative Chinese loanwords ta~3,s(?)(?)~3 and t(?)k~7/t(?)k~8 are selected from the script for in-depth case studies,in which more attention is paid to their semantic and grammatical evolutions, and the causes for these changes are explained.Chapter Five centers on the analysis of pronouns in the script.First, this chapter looks at the paradigm features of the Zhuang pronouns from the whole script, describes their regular grammatical reference, focuses on their pragmatic empathic functions and makes explanation with cognitive linguistic theory, and classifies pronoun's functions as ownership and emphasis according to different language structures and explains the internal relations of different types in language structures.Second, the thesis groups the functions of near demonstrative pronoun nei~4 in the script into five,i.e.referring to position, people and objects, time, property, state or degree, and connection, and discusses them respectively. Finally, the thesis probes into the interrogative pronouns in the script from four aspects of interrogative morphemes, word formation method, interrogative function and non-interrogative function,in which a close attention is paid to the person-interrogative pronoun (?)da~5,a context-based discussion is made on the topic of non-interrogative functions of interrogative pronouns to express negation, arbitrary reference, virtual reference, modality and degree, and an explanation is given to how they generate from interrogative functions.Chapter Six discusses the metaphor phenomena in the script. From the perspective of cognitive linguistics, the thesis explores the phenomena of metaphor, metonymy and metaphtonymy behind the vocabulary of body parts, animals and plants, and summarizes their conceptual metaphors and metonymic paths. On body parts vocabulary, there are three metonymic paths: PARTS FOR THE WHOLE,WHOLE FOR THE PARTS,BODY PART FOR ITS TYPICAL ACTIONS OR FUNCTIONS,and four conceptual metaphors: OBJECT IS HUMAN BODY,ABSTRACT CONCEPT IS HUMAN BODY,HUMAN BODY IS A CONTAINER,HUMAN BODY IS ABSTRACT CONCEPT.On animal and plants vocabulary, there are three animal metaphors: HUMAN IS ANIMAL,TIME IS ANIMAL'S ACTION,RESULT IS ANIMAL,and two plant metaphors: HUAMN IS PLANT,LOVE IS PLANT.The last part is Conclusion, which makes a brief summary of the whole thesis from two aspects of the language value and the character value, and points out the innovation of the thesis and the areas to be studied, providing some suggestions for future study.
