| The Development of school-based curriculum resource is not only an emerging highlight of new curriculum reform, but also one of the most importance and difficult aspects that can’t be overlooked, because it fully displays the purpose of the reform which is "for the students". In the process of the development, the research value of cultural choices lies in its ultimate purpose, which is to discuss the practical methods on how to establish a teaching and learning resource development that is based on the development of students.Since national primary and secondary schools are located in national regions with special geographical and cultural environment, the development of school-based curriculum resource in the schools is facing a variety of cultural subjects. In terms of cultural choices of the development in national schools, it has become an urgent problem-how to choose appropriate contents to really satisfy the students’need for their personal development.Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region lies in northwest China, and is the largest Hui minority district in China. As a result, Ningxia displays cultural diversity and complexity from geographical environment to minority culture. It is expected that the trend in cultural choices of school-based curriculum resource development in Ningxia national primary and secondary schools can be further discussed through the reflection on current situation of it. Consequently, curriculum can play an important role in teaching and cultural continuity, and make the resource development in minority district becomes intelligent cultural choices.The current research took the natural geographical environment, social cultural change and current situation of national development in education as background. The theoretical basis is educational sociology, educational culturology, educational philosophy and psychology. Focusing on cultural choices in school-based curriculum resource development in Ningxia national primary and secondary schools, the research used text-analysis, investigation and observation as major research methods for data collection, sortation and text analysis of related materials and for the survey of related personnel.The following three aspects were illustrated in the study:actual situation of cultural choices in school-based curriculum resource development in Ningxia national primary and secondary schools; attitude and actuality of subjects including teachers, students, school managers in the curriculum reform; and status quo of developing objects with national culture, regional culture and school culture involved.Furthermore, this study demonstrated the reality and specialty of cultural choices in school-based curriculum resource development in Ningxia national primary and secondary schools, addressing that principal factors that influence the choices are: subjects’ ideas and behaviors, and their awareness of contents and results in cultural choice; cultural characteristics of national regions and features of curriculum resource development. Under their influence, the cultural choices showed the special importance for students’ and cultural development, for curriculum development and teachers’ professional development, and for social development and cultural establishment of national schools. Therefore, the cultural choice was a dynamic procedure with multiple participants, and this procedure should be according to some certain steps. It is suggested that the following five relationships in the cultural choice should be noticed in practice:dominance and diversity of subjects, nationality and specialty of contents, balance and reality of structure, standardization and operability of procedure, and continuity and development of the result. This can give explicit instructions on future research on cultural choices.On the basis of the present study, the follow-up activities can be furthered by deepening fundamental theories and adopting various research methods to give a lead to reflective practice. |
