Abstract/Summary:
In the era of knowledge-based economy, the cooperation between schools and enterprises could not only contribute to knowledge innovation, but also help promote the industrialization of scientific and technological achievements.Especially, confronted with the fierce international competition and the tremendous pressure of technological pressure, the significance of university-industry collaboration becomes extraordinarily evident. In spite of the great achievements made by China in the theoretical study in university-industry collaboration, when it comes to the practice of university-industry collaboration, there lie various problems. For instance, first, the unstable cooperative relationship between them could become an obstacle in the subsequent cooperation.Second, due to the distinct heterogeneity between schools and enterprises,it is difficult for them to effectively integrate with each other for deep cooperation, which would result in the failure to achieve an ideal cooperative performance.Third, the low efficiency in the transformation of scientific and technological achievements resulted from the lack of in-depth cooperation between schools and enterprises would hinder this cooperative course. In the theoretical research of the existing university-industry cooperation, scholars have discussed its process and traced back to the beginning of cooperation. From the perspective of partner selection, there are views that the inappropriate choice of partners leads to frequent conflicts in subsequent cooperation and to the low conversion efficiency of both cooperation performance and scientific and technological results. And from the perspective of of organizational cooperation, since the university-industry cooperation is a typical cross-border organizational cooperation, the large heterogeneity among organizations leads to poor coordination and insufficient cooperation.Even so,the existing literature still has insufficient research on these two perspectives:First,it ignores that the process of partner selection is two-way,and lacks the emphasis on subjective choice willingness;second, partner selection and cooperation are continuous processes, but the influence mechanism of partner selection on university-industry cooperation is still relatively vague. In order to make up for the shortages mentioned above, this paper chooses two universities and their partner companies as research samples, identifies the equivalent matching factors selected by universities and enterprise partners according to the equivalence and matching criteria, and analyzes the influence of equivalent matching factors on organizational compatibility. In addition,in considering the influencing mechanism of synergistic effect, the paper analyzes the factors affecting university-industry cooperation. Also,on the basis of partner selection, the paper further discuss the effect of the equivalent matching factors on university-industry cooperation. The paper mainly includes the following:Firstly, this paper defines relevant concepts, such as equivalent matching,university-industry collaboration, and synergy. It then sorts out the basic theories applied in this study and draws a conclusion, including the enterprise strategic alliance theory,complex-system theory and symbiosis theory.Based on the concept definition and relevant theories, the overall framework of theoretical study of this paper is constructed.Secondly, based on the theory of enterprise strategic alliance and the method of equivalent matching, this paper analyzes the influence of factors selected by university-industry partners on organizational compatibility. The study uses the data(2013-2017)of the cooperation between Harbin Institute of Technology(HIT)and its business partners, and the data(2011-2015)of the cooperation between Hunan University of Science and Technology(HUST)and its partners.Principal components analysis and variance analysis are used to discriminate the equivalence of organizational capabilities, organizational reputation, and organizational scale.Furthermore, the structural equation model(SEM)is used to construct the relationship model of equivalent matching factors, willingness to cooperate and organizational compatibility based on the three indicators—capability equivalence, reputation equivalence, and scale equivalence,as well as the willingness of the partner who makes the choice. The study finds that capability equivalence, reputation equivalence, and scale equivalence have a positive effect on organizational compatibility, and willingness to cooperate plays an intermediary role between equivalence matching factors and organizational compatibility.Thirdly, the study applies the complex-system theory, analyzes the synergistic process of university-industry collaboration and the synergy evolution system of university-industry collaboration;with the method and software of system dynamics(SD),it builds the dynamic model of collaborative evolution of the influence posed by equivalent matching factors, cooperative willingness and resource investment on the growth of university-industry collaboration performance.Through simulating 16 sets of HIT-enterprise matching samples and 10 sets of HUST-enterprise ones, the study finds that there is a dynamic of synergistic evolution within the university-industry cooperation system of equivalent matching and can enhance the synergistic effect of university-industry cooperation. Finally, with the symbiosis theory, this paper analyzes the influence of strategic synergy, organizational synergy, and knowledge synergy on the synergistic effect of university-industry cooperation, and probes into the influencing mechanism between equivalent matching factors and the synergistic effect of university-industry cooperation.Combined with the relevant data of university-industry cooperation, the structural equation model and hierarchical regression analysis method are used to construct the relationship model of the interaction effect and the influence path of the synergistic latent variable, and the moderation effect model of the equivalent matching factor. The study finds that there is an interaction between knowledge synergy, strategic synergy, and organizational synergy, and knowledge synergy and organizational synergy have a significant positive effect on synergistic effect. In addition,it is also found that capability equivalence has a significant positive adjustment effect on the relationship between knowledge synergy and synergistic effect;reputation equivalence and scale equivalence have a significant positive adjustment effect on the relationship between organizational synergy and synergistic effect. In this way,the influencing mechanism of synergistic effect of equivalent and matched university-industry cooperation is further revealed. In this study,by means of distributed and integrated research on the partner selection process and cooperation process of universities and enterprises, the influencing mechanism of the matched university-industry partner selection on the synergistic effect of university-industry cooperation is explained. It enriches the study results of university-industry collaboration synergy, and provides a theoretical basis and practical reference for government sectors, enterprises and university administrative departments to formulate scientific and reasonable cooperation policies.
