There are some problems traditional construction mode meeting with,e.g.,low efficiency,difficult quality and cost control,high resource consumption,and heavy environmental pollution.This results in increasing contradictions between traditional construction and sustainable development.Prefabricated construction(PC)has been one of the sustainable and industrialized construction modes.Chinese government has issued a series of policies and measures to promote the PC development.Even though,PC meets with limited application and development due to lacking of technical standards,weak stakeholders’ construction capabilities and lacking of mutual cooperation among stakeholders and et al.Many researchers and practitioners have explored to solve these problems from multiple perspectives including influencing factors exploration,technology innovation and management improvement.However,there are scant research works exploring the improvement of PC industry chain management,which brings about some negative impact on PC project performance.The improvement of PC industry chain management mainly includes two aspects,namely,improving industry chain holistic management such as collaboration management among stakeholders,and enhancing important stakeholders’ construction capabilities.It is critical for improving PC industry chain management to optimise construction operation processes of both holistic industry chain and important stakeholders’ internal.Furthermore,lean construction is considered as an effective method optimising construction operation processes.However,there is limited research focusing on how to utilise lean construction to optimise construction operation processes for improving PC industry chain management,resulting in negative impacts on PC project performance.To bridge this gap,this study aims to improving PC industry chain management and PC project performance through analysing problems and influencing factors in industry chain holistic management and important stakeholders’ construction capabilities,constructing a lean construction mode optimising construction operation processes and exploring a structural path implementing the mode.The main content of this study can be divided into four parts which are especially illustrated as below.Firstly,this study identified critical factors influencing PC industry chain holistic management through exploring the network of mutual value activities among stakeholders.There is scant research about exploring the improvement of PC industry chain management through identifying and quantifying the network of mutual value activities among stakeholders.Therefore,this study used Stakeholder Value Network(SVN)analysis to construct and quantify the value activity network,further identifying important factors influencing PC industry chain holistic management including important stakeholders,activities and activity paths.The research results indicate that the important stakeholders are developer,designer,producer and general contractor,named construction enterprises,and the important activities and activity paths are the activities related to the collaboration management among all stakeholders and the important stakeholders’ construction capabilities.Secondly,this study evaluated construction capability maturity of the aforementioned construction enterprises,and identified key factors influencing the construction capabilities.There are limited research works exploring the improvement of PC industry chain management from the perspective of analysing construction enterprises’ construction capabilities and corresponding influencing factors.Therefore,this study established a fuzzy integral evaluation model integrated Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process(FAHP)analysis and Entropy theory,and determined influencing factors and maturity levels.This study further used this model to evaluate construction capabilities of construction enterprise cases and identify key influencing factors.The research results indicate that construction enterprises’ construction capabilities are relatively weak,and mainly impacted by four categories of factors including market scale,quality control,standard and system innovation,and economic profit.Thirdly,this study constructed a lean construction mode oriented to the optimisation of construction operation processes,in order to improve PC industry chain holistic management and important stakeholders’ construction capabilities.There are little studies focusing on the improvement of PC industry chain management through constructing a lean construction mode optimising internal and external construction operation processes of construction enterprises.Therefore,this studied used IDEF theory to construct the IDEF models of operation processes and identify corresponding control points of processes based on the aforementioned construction activities and influencing factors.This study established the relationships among improving control points and lean construction tools,and then constructed the lean construction mode integrated with some information technologies such as Building Information Modeling(BIM)and Internet of Things(Io T).This study further verified the effect of this lean construction mode through undertaking ARENA simulation of a construction enterprise case.The research results indicate that the lean construction mode has positive effects on optimising operation processes,improving construction capabilities of construction enterprises and PC industry chain management.Furthermore,it is critical for increasing effects of lean construction mode on improving PC industry chain management to make systematic steps and plans of implementing.Fourthly,this study provided an implementation path of lean construction mode through exploring relationships among implementation strategies of lean construction.There is lacking of research about constructing the implementation path of lean construction in the context of Chinese PC development based on exploring the structural relationships and mutual influences among the implementation strategies.Therefore,this study identified important implementation strategies,used Interpretive Structure Modelling(ISM)to construct ISM model of implementation strategies.This study then utilised Matrices Impacts Croises-multiplication Appliance Classement(MICMAC)to explore these strategies’ influences on lean construction implementation,and used Complex Network Theory(CNT)to determine these strategies’ importance through calculating strategies’ structural and hierarchy weights.A structural and multihierarchy implementation path of lean construction mode was provided.The research results indicate that there exist complex relationships among implementation strategies which has important effects on the successful lean construction implementation.Furthermore,construction enterprises should prioritise organization and people related strategies,emphasis technology-related strategies,and enhance plan and resource management related strategies.In summary,this study explores how to improve PC industry chain holistic management and important stakeholders’ construction capabilities through constructing the lean construction mode orienting to optimising construction operation processes.The research results provide references for the Chinese PC industry and construction enterprises to make measures for improving PC industry chain management and project performance,further can promote PC development.
