| China’s economy has entered the new normal,requiring new growth in manufacturing.The whole industrial chain embedding of producer services provides indispensable support for the manufacturing sector to optimize production processes,upgrade technology and improve product added value.The relationship of the manufacturing and producer services has also moved from separation and symbiosis to integration.The“14th Five-Year Plan" stated to develop a new model of serviceoriented manufacturing clearly.Moreover,the Chinese government has held relevant meetings for many times,put forward relevant development plans and formulated appropriate industrial integration policies,all of which are promoting the upgrading of the manufacturing actively in order to make full use of the strong addition of producer services to the manufacturing industry to achieve the goal.The experience of developed countries also shows that promoting the deep integration of the two sectors is not only the basic requirement of modern industrial evolution in the era of service economy,but the key to accelerating manufacturing growth.Focusing on the central proposition of "the impact of the integration of manufacturing and producer services on China’s manufacturing upgrading",this paper applies the relevant theories of industrial economics,econometrics,and applied statistics comprehensively,with the help of various methods.Combined with quantitative analysis and other methods,this paper discusses the upgrading of China’s manufacturing sector from the perspective of industrial integration.The problems that this article hopes to solve are:(1)For the manufacturing sector and producer services,is there a scientific theoretical basis on industrial integration?What is the integration mechanism?(2)How to measure the industrial integration degree?What is the integration level of China’s two sectors?Is there a difference in the integration level between different sectors?(3)What are the specific manifestations of China’s manufacturing upgrading?How to measure manufacturing upgrading?Does the integration of the two industries have different upgrading effects on different levels?(4)Through which paths does the integration of the two industries promote the upgrading of manufacturing?This paper consists of seven chapters,which can be divided into four parts.Chapter 1 is the first part.As the most basic composition of this paper,this chapter focuses on the background,significance,logic,framework,research methods and main innovations of this paper.Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 are the second part and the program of this paper.Among them,Chapter 2 combs the literature based on industrial integration theory,industrial upgrading theory,industrial chain theory,industrial innovation theory and transaction cost theory.Chapter 3 defines the connotation of the integration of the two industries and manufacturing upgrading firstly,and then deduces the internal relationship between the integration and upgrading by constructing a mathematical model.It is found that the manufacturing sector and producer service sector integrate through the decomposition and reconstruction of the value chain and the penetration and extension of the value chain.The integration of the two industries promotes the productivity upgrading,industrial performance upgrading and industrial structure upgrading of the manufacturing sector.There are three ways to realize this upgrading:cost effect,innovation effect and spillover effect.That is,the integration of the two industries can promote manufacturing upgrading by reducing costs,encouraging innovation and promoting the agglomeration of producer services.Chapter 4-6 are the core of this paper.This part focuses on the empirical test of the above-mentioned with econometric model.In Chapter 4,firstly,the development level of manufacturing and producer services are calculated by constructing the index system,and then the degree of integration of the two industries is measured by using the coupled coordination model,and finally the upgrading level of the manufacturing industry is measured from the three levels of industrial efficiency,industrial performance and industrial structure.In Chapter 5,this paper analyzes the impact of integration on manufacturing upgrading empirically,using fixed effect model,ordinary least squares model,two-stage least squares model,dynamic panel regression model and threshold regression model.In Chapter 6,the transmission mechanism of integration promoting upgrading is tested by the intermediary effect model.It is found that from 2005 to 2019,the development of China’s producer services industry lagged behind the manufacturing,and the average integration degree of the two sectors is 0.5781,which still showed medium and low integration,and basically showed the characteristics of labor-intensive<capital intensive<technology intensive,low-tech industry<medium-tech industry<high-tech industry.From 2005 to 2019,China’s manufacturing industry is generally rising steadily,and the industrial efficiency,industrial performance and industrial structure are basically rising,but there is still much room for improvement in the adjustment of industrial structure.Secondly,the integration of the two industries has promoted the efficiency upgrading,performance upgrading and structural upgrading of the manufacturing industry significantly,with the effect of 0.4730,0.8610 and 0.0182 respectively.Moreover,the integration of the two industries plays a more obvious role in promoting the performance improvement and structural optimization of low-tech manufacturing sectors(1.5691>1.3271;0.0245>0.0010),and has a stronger role in improving the productivity of medium and high-tech sectors(0.6138>0.4930).For knowledge intensive sectors and non-knowledge intensive sectors,the effect of integration on productivity,performance and structure of manufacturing is greater in the former than in the latter.Moreover,the integration of the two industries has no significant threshold effect on manufacturing upgrading.However,the integration of low-tech manufacturing sector and producer services has a significant single threshold effect on the manufacturing structure,showing a nonlinear relationship from weak to strong,with a threshold of 0.3905;The integration of medium-tech manufacturing sector and producer services has a significant single threshold effect on the manufacturing structure,showing a nonlinear relationship from weak to strong,with a threshold of 0.3672;The integration of medium-tech manufacturing sector and producer services has a significant single threshold effect on manufacturing productivity,showing a "U"relationship of inhibition firstly and then promotion,with a threshold of 0.3523;The integration of high-tech manufacturing sector and producer services sector has a significant single threshold effect on manufacturing performance,showing the "U"correlation,with a threshold of 0.5752.Finally,the integration of manufacturing and producer services promotes manufacturing upgrading.The intermediary effects of cost and innovation are 17.21%and 66.15%respectively.The intermediary effect of spillover is not obvious.The integration improves the industrial performance of manufacturing.The intermediary effects of cost,innovation and spillover are 8.43%,20.26%and 25.03%respectively.The integration of manufacturing and producer services optimizes the industrial structure of manufacturing.The intermediary effects of cost,innovation and spillover are 11.87%,5.27%and 11.34%respectively.Chapter 7 is the last part of this paper,which is also the summary of the previous article.Firstly,it summarizes the research conclusions;Then,according to the above theoretical analysis and empirical results,this paper puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions on the integration to promote manufacturing upgrading.First,accelerate the pace of integration and promote the in-depth development;Second,clarify the advantages of specialized division of labor and improve the production efficiency;Third,build an integrated industrial system to improve the industrial performance;Fourth,transform leading industries actively and optimize the industrial structure;Fifth,increase technological innovation in the manufacturing industry and strengthen the interaction between technological innovation and industrial integration;Sixth,improve the construction of infrastructure and system and optimize the industry convergence environment;Seventh,create a convergent platform and carrier to play a leading role in the demonstration area.Finally,it puts forward possible solutions to the shortcomings of the article.
