Three-Dimensional Landscape Technology Research Based On ArcGIS & SketchUp

The 3D Landscape technology is one of the newest trends of the development of GIS science. Different from 2D GIS, 3D GIS provides human being more realistic feeling about the representation of natural world. It demonstrates various phenomena of geographic space with three-dimensional formation technology. Three dimensional geographic information system have already been applied in many domain of nowadays society, not only the digital Earth but also the digital city all needs the three dimensional geographic information system as the core technologies. The conventional method of three-dimensional landscape modeling is used to making use of software on graphics and developing to browse three-dimensional landscape via interface on 2.5 dimensional GIS system. ArcGIS9.0 has been had the function of displaying three-dimensional symbols. Traditional method is painfully and discommodiously to integrate with the function of GIS effectively.Using SketchUp and ArcGIS, may introduce the methods of establishing virtual campus based on 3D modeling. Google SketchUp is used to create 3D model. With the 3D visualization of ArcScene, the campus scene was constructed. By means of the virtual campus, we can set up a digital space after the digitalization of various resource of realistic campus and realize the whole process of teaching, science and study, management, service, and so on, in order to realize the aim of improving the teaching quality, the lever of science study and management.
