The Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) takes an important role in the blast furnace dust removing devices of the steelworks for its high efficiency, low energy consuming and steady performance. The application of the ESP in the iron and steel industry has greatly settled the environment problems such as soot emitting, air disposing etc. in the taphole place. But there are still some problems in the running ESP system. As far as 2001, the ratio of the application of ESP in the iron and steel industry is a little more than 80 percent among which almost 40 percent are not up to par. There are many reasons of the low efficiency of ESPs, such as the administrators do not manage them scientifically, the ESPs are here and there, so it is difficult to control and maintain, the technology of the EPSs is out of date, as a result, the workload of the controllers is great and they can not find the abnormal parameter timely and may lead to equipment failure or accident.According to the general problems of EPS, this paper mainly stated the aspects we have studied: The study and application of computer supervisory control technology of the blast furnace ESP. The development and realization of the DBMS of the blast furnace ESP. The study of interconnection technique of ESP System and the Intranet.On the basis of the analysis and research on the general problems existing in an ESP control system, taking the third blast furnace ESP system in Wuhan Iron and Steel Company for example, by using of computer technique, control technique, network communication technique and fault diagnosis technique, this paper presents an improving way to establish a blast furnace ESP Computer Supervisory Control System and DBMS, then combining the network frame of Client/Server with Browser/Server to realize the communication between the ESP system and the Intranet by using of ForceContol configuration software. Now, the level of automatic management, capability of control and efficiency on the ESP system are improved greatly, in addition, it can also predict the equipment fault. The modified system can help worker to insure ESP running safely and efficiently in a long time. It is introduced in details that the technical reform of theconstruction of supervisory control system for ESP. Practical application shows that the reform is reasonable and effective. In addition, the function of the system is extended greatly.According to the complicated equipment fault existing in ESP system, this paper presents the concept to design a Fault Diagnosis Expert System of ESP. The writer can not make a thorough study in a short time, but the system frame and incipient research has been done.
