Yemazhui is the whole grass of Eupatorium lindleyanum DC. It implies flavonoid, alkaloid, volatile oil, etc. It is bitter, even, has the pure heat to counteract poison, decline the blood pressure etc. It main grows in XuYi of Jiangsu. This article analysed its chemical constituents. The determination of the trace elements in the stem-leaf and flower of the Eupatorium lindleyanum DC by using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry was presented in this article. The sample was made in dry-ashing and wet methods. In dry-ashing method, the sample was ashed in 600 for four hours, after that the ash was dissolved by HNO3. In wet method, the sample was dissolved by HNO3-HC1O4 directly. The determination results indicate that: the Eupatorium lindleyanum DC. contains many trace elements such as Fe Al Si etc. The content is about 3.45%. Among them Fe Cu Mn Zn Sr Ni Cr are necessary for the health of human beings. The contents of the free and combined amino acids in Eupatorium lindleyanum DC in Jiangsu province are determined by Reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography in this study, using pre-column derivatization with o-phthaldialdehyde (OPA) and fluorenylmethyl chloroformate(FMOC) RP-HPLC. Liozospheze C18 column, the mobile phase includes sodium acetate at pH 7.2 and methanol buffer, flow speed: 1.0ml/min, fluorescence detector(FLD), wavelengths are Ex=340nm, Em=450nm. Seventeen amino acids of the Eupatorium lindleyanum DC and its flowers were separated and detected in 30.0 min. The results showed: there are 17 kinds of free and combined amino acids in Eupatorium lindleyanum DC and their flowers. The contents of combined amino acids are 2.40 % and 6.51%. The contents of free amino acids are 1.85%o and 5.08%. The contents of Cystatin acid (cys) and Glutamic acid (glu) are much higher than other amino acids. And there are 7 kinds of human essential amino acids in Eupatorium lindleyanum DC. and its flowers. The chemical components of the volatile oil from the flowers of Eupatoriumlindleyanum DC were analyzed by GC-MS. The volatile oil was extracted from the flowers of Eupatorium lindleyanum DC by steam distillation. The components were analyzed with different kinds of capillary columns. The optimum separated and analytical conditions were researched. The contents of the components from the volatile oil were determined by normalization method. The components separated were identified by GC-MS. 19 components composed of about 57.13% of the total volatile oil were identified. The total flavonoids content from Eupatorium lindleyanum DC by using 95% alcohol in three different extraction methods: infusion, ultrasonic and reflux. Rutin is used as standard substances. The total flavonoids content of Eupatorium lindleyanum DC was determined by using Al (N3) 3-NaNO2 colorimetry. Under chosen experiment condition, there is a linear relationship between the concentration of Rutin solution and absorption spectrum in the range of 0.01672-0.0836mg/ml with correlation coefficient 0.9999. The average recovery rate of this method is 98.20%, and the relative standard deviation is 1.27~1.63%. The result shows: there are a lot of flavonoids in Eupatorium lindleyanum DC, the content is about 2%. Among the three-extraction methods, reflux extraction has the highest extract rate. The chemical components, were extracted from the Eupatorium lindleyanum DC by using 95% alcohol in the same methods as the extraction of the total flavonoids. The chemical components were separated and identified by GC-MS. The contents of 33 components of the total extracts from Eupatorium lindleyanum DC.were determined and 26 of them were identified. The results indicate the ultrasonic extraction will not destroy the structure of the molecule.
