The MAN type dry gas holder is positive to make full use of steel factory's byproduct(gas) to solve power sources problem and reduce energy sources expending. As the development of production, MAN tpye gas holder will be more widely used in the iron and steel industry. But due to the shortage of a perfect design criterion, designer often use a simplified calculation method, which may make the design iffy. Thereforce, study the structural behavior and provide theoretical basis for enginering, is of great theoretical value and practical signficance.This paper is an advanced study bases on the results abtained by Tong Genshu. The closed analytical formulae for calculating the deformations, stress and internal forces are derived according to the deformation behavior of the wall plates under gas pressure and the boundary conditions, which give the resuls in good agreement with those abtained by finite element analysis of holder under gas press, can be used in designing. Validate and amend the formulae about the internal forces of cloister and plate rib gived in the reference 50.Gas pressure and wind pressure are the mostly loads. In this paper, detailed static, geometrical nonlinear analysis for the holder is carried out by the common FEA software. The results about the deformations, stress and internal forces of the column , wall plate and cloister are analyzed and compared, then derived the crucial points of intensity and rigidity during design.The primary function of cloister is keeping the holder's section shape. Change the cloister's section and the amount of the sides, analyze the unrounded ratio of the section and deformations about the maximal wind attraction of the holder, and give a limited value of the cloister rigidity. Then derive formula about the cloister's limited section size. Accoeding to the results of the FEA, the cloister's section is determined by the rigidity limit.Through the paper's work, it's an supplement of the reference 50,and offers the base for the holder's safety evaluate and design.
