An Empirical Research On The Relationship Between Environmental Quality And Economic Growth In Shaanxi

With the rapid economic growth since reform and openness in China, a variety of environmental problems are emerging, leading the government to face the environmental protection challenge while developing economy. Therefore, how to promote the coordinated development of economy and environment becomes the key issue in current society. Shaanxi province also faces the same problems, so it is necessary for us to study the relationship between environment and economy of Shaanxi, as well as its influencing factors in Shaanxi so as to solve the problems of the development of economy and environment according to the fact in Shaanxi.First of all, the author summarizes the research on development of economy and environment, expatiates basic theories of the relationship between development of economy and environmental pollution. Then by the per capita GDP and emissions of major pollutants statistical data in 1986-2006 of Shaanxi province, this paper analyses of the relationship between economic growth and environmental pollution, and selects the suitable EKC model for Shaanxi, then research the character of EKC and the impaction that the external factors influent the environmental quality. Finally, based on the fact and the above result, the paper put forwards some policy suggestions over the continuous development of environment and economy.There are four main parts in this paper as follows:(1) Theoretical analysis on the relationship between environment and economy.(2) Current situation of environment and economic growth in Shaanxi.(3) Empirical research on the curve relationship between economic growth and environmental quality and obtain the long-term trend of development.(4) Directional and Quantitative analysis on the external factors' influences over environmental quality and the reason for the curve deviation and short-term partial fluctuation, and suggestions for the fact. Based on the analysis of Shaanxi's environmental conditions and the factors that affect the quality of the environment in Shaanxi and the relationship between economic growth and environmental quality, this paper comes to the following conclusion by empirical study:(1) In1986-2006 year, Shaanxi's environmental quality is more optimistic about the overall situation, but in recent years there is a rapid deterioration of the development trend.(2)At present, Shaanxi does not exist the ECK between environmental quality and economic development, and its development is still before the inflection point. It has the remarkable fluctuation characteristic.(3) Through influencing over environmental quality and economic growth, the external factors cause the curve deviation and short-term partial fluctuation. The impactions that the external factors influent integrated quality of the environment and environmental pollution and ecological environment are different so need to analyze specific of its role.
