Study On The Relation Of Economic Growth And Environmental Quality In Hefei Based On Environmental Kuznets Curve

Environmental Kuznets Curve theory indicates that environment quality willdeteriorate over economic development initial period. When the economic development isabove a certain threshold, it can automatically reduce or even eliminate the destructiveeffect on the environment.Hefei, which is in the core of both Wanjiang City Belt Pilot Region for IndustrialTransfer and Hefei economic circle, faces both good opportunities for development andemerging contradictions between environmental protection and economic development. Itis necessary to analyze the basic situation and relevance between economic developmentand environmental quality at the macroscopic level, and implement targeted coordinationwith environmental protection in various aspects of economic development, to achieve awin-win situation for economic development and environmental benefits.The research status of Environmental Kuznets Curve, which includes the formationhistory of EKC hypothesis, the basic form, the cause of formation of EKC, the turningpoint, the indicator research status and etc had been stated firstly in the paper. The modeltheory explanation about the formation of EKC, that includes the model hypothesis, theparameter specification, the form of the utility function and the mathematical derivationprocess are emphatically introduced.Quantitative methods are used to fit Hefei industry "three wastes" and comprehensiveenvironmental quality Environmental Kuznets Curve. We concluded that the EKC of Hefeiindustrial waste gas is an inverse-U curve, the EKC of Hefei industrial waste water is adecline curve, the EKC of Hefei industrial solid waste is a rising curve, and the EKC ofHefei comprehensive environmental quality is also a rising curve.The results show that Hefei industry wastewater treatment has been quite effective,water quality has improved significant; Hefei industry emissions growth began to slowdown, industrial air pollution began to ease; Hefei industrial solid waste emissions increasesignificant, solid waste pollution in the intensified stage; Hefei the overall environmentalquality is in the unreasonable range, the quality of the environment is still in the stage ofdeterioration. We explored the internal cause of the Hefei EKC in the last part of the paper by themethod of gray correlation analysis. Population size, industrial structure, science andtechnology, environmental policies and regulations, the process of urbanization and othereconomic development factors, were selected to compare with the size of the correlationbetween the qualities of environment. Then we could select those factors which have greatimpact on environment quality in Hefei.
