The preparation of cationic waterborne ultra-fine pigment is a development trend of ultra-fine pigment. The cationic ultra-fine pigment was prepared by sedimentation of cationic surfactant, which can change the surface polarity and improve the dispersibility of the pigment.The preparation method and composition of the cationic pigment dispersion were investigated. The experimental results showed that the optimum conditions for preparing cationic ultra-fine pigments were as follows: ultrasonic power was 600 w, ultrasonic time was 30 minutes, peregal O25 acted as the wetting agents and the dosage of dispersant was 12 % of the one of pigment. Under the optimal preparing conditions, the particle size of the pigment dispersion was about 205nm, the Zeta potential was close to 50mV, and the centrifugal stability was about 50%.The effect of the dosage of the dispersant on the particle size and stability of the pigment dispersion were investigated. The experimental results showed that with the increase of the amount of the dispersant the particle size decreased first and then increased, the Zeta potential increased and the centrifugal stability increased first and then decreased. The dispersion process would affect the centrifugal stability,the particle size and its distribution. With the increase of the ultrasonic power the particle size decreased, the particle size distribution decreased first and then increased and the centrifugal stability increased first and then decreased; with the increase of the ultrasonic time the particle size decreased, the particle size distribution decreased.The color properties of the cationic ultra-fine pigment dispersion were also investigated in this paper. The results showed that compared with the fabrics dyed by common cationic pigment,anionic ultra-fine pigment or nonionic ultra-fine pigment, the fabrics dyed by the cationic ultra-fine pigment exhibited deeper color and better color fastness.The research results of improving the color fastness with adhesive showed that impregnating the adhesive solution whose concentration was 1.0% can meet the experimental requirement.
