Wetland and its various coexistence resources are the important foundation for the survival and sustained development of human beings. GIS technology has been applied in wetland research and management at home and abroad since 1970s. Data visualization is an important function of geographic information systems, the wetland data visualization research and practice contribute to a better use of GIS research and Poyang Lake wetland management.Several following topics are discussed in this paper:Firstly, wetland data visualization based on GIS is divided into three levels: the visual display of data itself (including map display and output), visualization in query and visualization of analysis results. Based on analysis in three aspects: rapid development of data acquisition technology, rapid development of data visualization theory, and the growing demand of Poyang Lake wetland data visualization, the paper makes a conclude that data visualization of Poyang Lake wetland is feasible. Wetlands data classification is premise in building a Poyang Lake wetland database. Poyang Lake wetland data types include basic geographic spatial data and environmental resources attribute data. Spatial data visualization technology has progressed from two-dimensional graphic images to 3D visualization, and multi-dimensional dynamic direction.Secondly, based on analysis of Poyang Lake wetland data types and visualization theory and technology, reference of National Bureaus of Technology Supervision《1:10000,1:50000 digital topographic maps norms》(GB / T 17160-1997),《1:500; 1:1000; 1:2000 topographic maps classification and code elements》(GB1480-93), this paper collects data, establishing Poyang Lake wetland database by using Geodatabase Data Model. This database consisted of spatial data, environmental resources data and socio-economic data at the same coordinate reference.Then, the Poyang Lake wetland data visualization system has been developed with visual object-oriented development tools VB.NET and ArcGIS Engine. The system consisted of the basic operation map, map printing, spatial analysis, query and visualization analysis module, special query and visualization Analysis Module use thematic maps and visual statistics charts to realize the foundation of waterfowl information analysis. Through interactive analysis of graphics and attribute, various wetland data of Poyang Lake will be visualized, this provide fast and accurate service information for protecting Poyang Lake wetland and management.Finally, the Poyang Lake wetland data visualization applies to the assessment of flooded loss. Examples are used in reference to the significance of Xingzi water level of Poyang Lake at the highest submerged as the water level elevation, with DEM raster data from the surface, and then convert to vector data, was overlaid with, it can get the area of flooded land by using water vector data and land-use data in 2000 of Poyang Lake area, and using unit output value, we can get preliminary loss estimates.
