To meet the multi variety and mass production of brake disc components, it is required that the production line of turning process for the brake disc of Auto & Motorcycle should have high flexiblility and the features of machining center. STAR-21C(P), An Automatic Flexible Numerical Control Turning Center for discoid Parts is developed in this paper. In sum, this paper is organized as follows.First, introduces the characteristics of flexible manufacturing cell/automatic line recently developed abroad, on this basis analyzes the production process of brake disc and puts forward requirements for the CNC equipment of brake disc. Also summarizes the current situation of NC lathe in our country. Meanwhile, the source of the project and the content of this paper are expounded.Second, introduces the mechanical structure design of the machining cell and the feeding control system, the process of the turning technology. PRO/E is used to create the three-dimensional model. Furthermore, the hardware and software structure of STAR-21C (P) is also designed in this paper. In the part of hardware, it introduces the principle of CNC system of STAR-21C (P), the structural characteristics as well as the selection of each moduls in detail. In the part of software, introduces the functions of the core chip MCX314 of the motion control card, implementation of the functions of bottom control are deeply studied and analyzed. The spindle control module is designed after that.Third, the serial communication in the data communication module between main controlling PC is studied; the concrete method to realize asynchronous communication orient to frames by programming to registers of (UART) 8250 is introduced. A code-reusable class with good generality named CSerial and a data structure used for multi-serial-port programming are designed. Also studies the network communication of S7-200 PLC, analyzes the communicate links between main controlling PC, PLC workstations in the control system of feeding control system based on PLC. Then introduces the design of the control system and the implementation method of the communication, the design of communication programs under free port mode and PPI protocol.
