This paper, involved in the project of Liaoning Wafangdian Bearing Corp. mould design and research, have researched and discussed how to design punching die more nationally with the method of finite element analysis, based on the specific requirement of tapered bearing retainer punching die.In this paper, based on the feature of tapered bearing retainer, we have rationally designed a kind of mould structure and stamping craft. The mechanics base of sheet metal forming, basic theory and executable method of elastic-plastic finite element analysis of sheet metal forming are systemically analyzed and summarized. Some factors that affect performance of sheet metal forming are also primarily analyzed and discussed. At last, by using the finite element simulation software-Deform, we have analyzed the process of forming, researched emphatically on influence of clearance of punching mould on the mould and the performance of sheet metal forming. Based on this, we have selected the optimized parameter of the mould and obtained good effect.The research of this paper have effectively used the method of finite element analysis to the process of punching die design, and provided practicable ways for rapidly and effectively obtaining clearance of punching mould, validating rationality of mould design, lowering mould design cost and shortening design cycle.
