With the extensive application of abrasive belt grinding technology, higher andhigher requirements for abrasive belt grinder are proposed. More varieties and smallbatches customer-ordered will be the development trend. However, the development ofabrasive belt grinder is slow in our country. Many factories still use common designmethod, leading to long design cycle and high production cost, so can’t meetcustomer-ordered needs and adapt to fierce market competition. Modular design is oneof the key techniques to achieve product diversification rapid design, which has greatsignificance for manufacturing enterprises to enhance their ability to respond to marketdemand quickly and to occupy a vantage position in the market competition.In this paper, through the research and analysis of the modular design theory andparameter design technology, discussed the realization method of the externalcylindrical centerless grinder modular design, including the module parametric designmethod and database building method. The main research contents of the paper are asfollows:First of all, this paper discussed the related concepts and basic principle of themodular design, studied the key technologies and evaluation index, analyzed andsummarized the general process and the three models of the modular design.Secondly, on the basis of making a further study on the module division theory, themodule of the external cylindrical centerless grinder was divided. By analyzing therealization method of parts parametrization design of the general CAD system, studiedthe parameterization design method of the module structure. Finally, described themethod in detail in a case study of the parameterization modeling of the centerlesscylindrical grinder grinding head.Then, through the research and analysis of the UG second development technologyand database building method of the parametric3D modeling module bank based on UG,put forward a new database building method by combing the spreadsheet method andprogram design method. Developed UG secondary with the tools it provides, likeparametric modeling technology, UG/Part Families tools, UG/OpenMenuScript,UG/Open UlStyler and UG/Open API. Established the3D parametric module library.Finally, discussed two kinds of assembly design method and some keytechnologies. Descirbed the detailed modular design process of the centerless cylindrical grinder based on the module library.
