The level of manufacturing reflects a country's technological development. As the development of manufacturing and technology, the manufacturing equipments are more and more accurate and efficiency. The forging press is playing an important role in many areas. The nominal force and modernization level of forging press reflects the power and modernization level of a country.Firstly, the paper introduces the composition of 31.5MN fast forging press, including the press structure, the manipulator, the hydraulic control system of the press and electronic control system. And the technological data is given, which is the indicators and basis of the 31.5MN fast forging press. Also it introduces the operating characteristics; it is helpful to the design of the hydraulic control system of the press.Then, according to the frequency and accuracy requirements of 31.5MN fast forging press, the fast forging loop is detailedly designed, including how to choose the main control components, the design of fast forging method, the calculation of accumulator, how to choose main pump, and the calculation of the system flow. Based on this, the main loop of 31.5MN fast forging press is designed. Then, the type selection of the key components is done on the base of calculation. And the heating value of the system is carried out. The solution of oil pollution is given.After the design of the hydraulic loop, the mathematic models of the key components in the hydraulic system are deduced. Based on this, their simulation models are carried out by the Simulink tool in MATLAB. The subsystem simulation models of the main cylinder system, the return cylinder system, the operating signal of fast forging are carried out. The simulation model of the fast forging hydraulic control system is built by linking simulation models of components and subsystems. The simulation is done, and the curves of different PID parameters are got, then, proper PID parameter is got. Then, the curves of slider displacement, work cylinder and return cylinder's pressure is plotted under three conditions: unload, the load of 100 tons and the load of 500 tons. Through the curves the conclusion is got that the hydraulic control system can meet the needs of fast forging operation, and the design of the system is correct.
