The steady creasing demand of nickle metal was drived by the strong requirement and big range growth of stainless steel in China. As one of the two processes of smelting nickle metal or nickle alloy, the pyrometallurgical process to smelt nickle alloy from laterite ore was paid more and more attention. One of the advanced processes is Rotary Kiln - Electrical Furnace process for smelting laterite ore.The article calculated the energy consumption and exhaust issue from the view of exergy, introduced the method of the mass balance calculation, heat balance calculation and exergy balance calculation for the system of rotary kiln-electrical furnace process smelting laterite ore. Based the mass balance calculation, heat balance calculation and exergy balance calculation of the system of RKEF process, the article compared the difference of energy consumption between the new process and the old processes. By programing a software by Visual Basic 6.0 to calculate the variety of energy utilizing efficiency on different cases and parameters, drawing the trend graphes for the different parameters by Excel2003, the author carried the analysis and appriase in a verity and effective way not only from the point of view of energy quantity but also from the energy quality, worked out the energy utilizating efficiency, found the parts and sub-processes of high energy loss and its reasons. This can provide theory and technical guide for energy saving, production cost deducting, environmental improving in the future.
