In this topic, basalt fiber plain fabric was used as raw materials, and experiments were designed to explore its application in the field of thermal protection.At the same time, plasma modification and coating techniques are used to improve the deficiency of the basalt fiber fabric itself. Instron3369 type universal material testing machine is used to evaluate the tensile and bending properties of the test specimen; Muffle furnace is used to test thermal stability of samples; YYL-07A type fabric flame retardant performance tester is used to test vertical combustion performance; And oxygen index test apparatus was used to test the value of limit oxygen index (LOI). Experimental results showed that, not only basalt fiber fabric has good mechanical properties, but also has excellent thermal performance.The tensile breaking strength of samples is 765.7 N, tear strength of warp and weft are respectively 79.1 N,77.7 N. Under the 260℃±5℃ high temperature environment, Dimensional changes of samples only 0.18%. When put the sample in flame,No smouldering, no combustion, the length of the damaged was 0. And limit oxygen index (LOI) of fiber was 69%.Plasma was used to modify basalt fiber plain cloth. Orthogonal experiment was design to explore the effect of treatment time, power output and vacuum on modified sample. And using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer was used to analyze the composition of sample surface. Results show that, vacuum degree has the largest influence on modified samples, the following was processing time, output power. When the vacuum degree was 50Pa, the processing time is 50s, and the output power was 250W, samples is modified by the largest degree. Composition analysis showed that, the number of Si-O bonds on fabric surface were increased. The carbonyl group (-C=O) of the carboxyl group (-COOH) had emerged. And there are traces of α-Fe precipitation.Application of coating technology on the unmodified basalt fiber fabrics, the tear strength of its Warp and weft were increased to 173.9 N,151.8 N. Application of coating technology on the modified basalt fiber fabric, the tear strength of its Warp and weft were increased to 198.ON,199.6N. The combination of plasma modification and coating technology has a better effect. But also with adding dye in coating agent, basalt fiber fabric was stained color.
