Being an important kind of ultra-precision machining, grinding is paid more and more attention on. Experts from home and abroad have invented various grinding processes, and carried out series of experiments of grindability of hard materials. But research of grindability of aluminum alloy is not enough. With the demands of higher accuracy of aluminum alloy parts, the property of grinding of aluminum alloy needs to be researched more extensively. The factors affecting grinding process and parts'surface forming is very complicated. Experts have been not engaged in studying of grinding machining mechanism, although fine roughness of surface and profile precision has been achieved. With the extensive application of grinding technology, people will further care about machined parts'surface micro topography. This paper relates to the following studies:Coated abrasives grinding mechanism and surface forming process of machined parts is studied in this paper. As regards abrasives of traditional grinding randomly scatter on the tooling, the interaction between abrasive and the machined part is uncertain, so it is not easy to analyze. However, for coated abrasives grinding, there exists a certain interaction between abrasive and the machined parts. On this basis, mechanics analysis of grinding grains in the process of machining is made in this paper. The grain is assumed in the form of spheroid, and then mechanics model of coated abrasives grinding is set up on this assumption.A study of the oretical roughness of surface on machined surface by coated abrasives grinding is made in this paper. The relationship between machined surface roughness, micro-topography and parameters of grinding is also studied. The results show that, different grinding parameters have a certain influence to these two factors, among which, grain size has a considerable influence on machined surface roughness, and grinding speed has a smaller influence. And experiments indicate that, machined parts will occur plastic deformation after grinding, even surface of brittle materials such as ceramics and carbide will deform to a certain degree.
