CAD is the technology of the application of computer hardware and software systems to assist in the design of the products or projects. It includes design activities such as designs, drawings, engineering analysis and document production, etc.; compared with the traditional design method, it is a new design concept and a new technology of the application of multidisciplinary and one of the main indispensable technical means to raise the level of product design and the market responsiveness. As an integral part of information technology, CAD combines high speed and mass data storage and processing and mining capacity of the computer and the comprehensive analysis and creative thinking ability of human, which plays an important role in accelerating the projects and products development, shortening the design manufacturing cycle and improving quality, reducing costs and enhancing market competitiveness and innovation.The strong vitality of AutoCAD lies in its versatility, variety of industrial standards and open system and architecture. Its versatility makes it very widely used in the fields of machinery, electronics, aviation, shipping, construction, clothing etc. However, the different industry standards make the use of AutoCAD in different fields customized or developed according to their own characteristics. In order to meet the needs of customers, from AutoCAD v2.18 to AutoCAD 2000 version, in the short 10 years, Autodesk Inc. has introduced three generations of secondary development tools. The generality of AutoCAD is a necessary condition for its secondary development, but the open system and architecture of AutoCAD makes the secondary development possible.In this paper, combining the powerful function of AutoCAD with VB.NET programming software, the function of AutoCAD is secondarily developed, and a shaft part design modeling CAD system has been developed. The system can achieve digitalization, procedure, and integration of numerical calculation, structural design, strength check, parts drawing, dimension tolerances, etc. It reduces a lot of checking table calculations and repeated modifying calculation and it turns the human operation into computer programmed operation to avoid computational errors resulting from human factors, which would increase the design efficiency and accuracy.
