"City" and "Rural", which have different meaning in the same space, appears in the government literature concern at the same time and attract attention again. It is predicted that the urbanization rate in China will exceed 50% in the twelfth "five year plan", This means that our land will have an equal share of the urban landscape and the rural landscape from the point of geography. That means there are more land and agricultural population in rural areas will be transformed. If the "City" and "rural" represent the "modern" and "tradition", what is the significance of urbanization as an important symbol of modernization to the traditional cultural expressions of current rural settlement. This is the focus of this research and study, is the innovation of this paper.This paper based on the thinking of above problems and the findings of objective fact in Yunnan rural settlement development during study period. At first, paper makes a historical review and summary of the origin of settlements and development factors. Analyze the factors and their impact on settlement development. Combined requirements of the times, the traditional evaluation system was proposed about settlement, to prove the horizontal space in the presence of contemporary elements of traditional settlements. Reservation of intangible heritage and that are inseparable. Industrialization and urbanization are the economic processes that is a progression of existing order, can exist in at the same time. Return of history again, In this paper, traditional settlement patterns and trends of contemporary were researched is to guide the practice of building settlements. This is repeated demonstration of innovative research methods. Using historical research to guide the classification status of the traditional village, then return to explore the causes of history. Analyze the process of rise and fall on the number of traditional settlements, according to the chronological order of development, agricultural civilization to industrial civilization. The paper gets facts from individual circumstances of different settlement pattern development in Yunnan Province. At last, paper makes a classification and forecast of Existing traditional settlement, hoping traditional culture will be passed on in the space of contemporary settlement. The paper's structure divided into four parts.1. In the context of rapid and sustainable development of economic level, it puts "traditional, settlement, space", the three elements of composite objects as a focus of this paper.2. In this paper, analysis the object of historical and phase factors of the classification, the traditional evaluation system is proposed and the traditional part of the contemporary settlement pattern in the type of classification.3. Industrialization and urbanization is the reason for the change of the settlement, sprout from China's modern industry,4. On the basis of the spirit of seeking truth from facts and the discussion of traditional and contemporary native settlement the relationship between settlements, it made several suggestions to create a space on contemporary native village in the traditional methods and traditional spiritual renewal of reference.
