Currently IEC61850 standard has become the only international standard for substation communication network. According to the description of IEC61850 standard system, industrial Ethernet is the basic communication network, and hard-wired connection will be replaced by Ethernet based on swithed. The key component of Ethernet:Ethernet switch, is used to structure the network architectures and transmit the control orders and monitoring data in power system. At the same time, monitoring and relay devices of power system collect their communication messages to switch and forward by copper or fiber optic cable. As large amount of data exchange, switch must have adequate switching capacity, rapid switching speed and very low switching latency to meet reliability and real-time of monitoring system communication.IEEE1588 standard, which is issued in 2002, is used in measurement and automation system as the high-precision network clock synchronization protocol. While summarizing before clock synchronization methods under a variety of communication modes, it resolves the clock synchronization problems of bus network and cross-network.In view of high precision distribution network synchronization of IEEE1588 standard, that researching and developing the switch supporting IEEE1588 and application in power system has important implications.This paper researches and designs the hardware and software of industrial Ethernet switch based on researching and analyzing IEEE1588 standard. Design of the switch hardware includes:CPU module, switch chip, exteral storage and power module. Switch chip is chosen by detailed comparison of three main switch chip manufacturers'products. Software module is designed for switch software management structure. Based on embedded system Vxworks, BSP, driver programme and communication module are designed.
