In recent years, with the rise of domestic subway construction, train network communication system has also experienced great improvement. Because of the fast data transmission, the good compatibility and the wide usability of the Ethernet, the application of switch technology in the train network communication has become the trend of development. Switch as the key equipment of the train network communication system, there are certain requirements of its quality, performance and functionality.In order to meet the needs of the increasing number of terminal devices in the train information transmission, a train Ethernet switch with multiple ports is designed in this thesis. It not only supports Fast and Gigabit Ethernet transmission speed, to carry VoIP voice service, Multimedia on Demand and other applications, but also provides four priority queues of QoS to ensure the fast forwarding of the critical data. In addition, the switch supports ring redundancy and POE function, which ensures the reliability of train Ethernet data transmission and the ease of equipment installation.The development of the train network and the characteristics of the train network switch are first introduced in this thesis. Then, the overall design of the switch and the selection of the main chips are described. After that, the hardware design of the switch has been discussed in detail, including the two88E6097chips connection in Serdes interface mode, the main controller FPGA, and the schematic designs of the FPGA peripheral chips, such as LPDDR, FLASH, POE and USB interface. Besides, based on the hardware circuit design, some knowledge of signal integrity and the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design are introduced. Afterwards, in order to realize the remote management of switch, the embedded SOPC system is constructed on the switch. At last, the process of hardware and functional test is given, and after that the conclusion and the future work are also discussed.
